There are 44 days to go until Round 3 takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park, there is still no change on the MRA website for entry information etc. but when we know, you’ll know right away.

Adam’s #44 Pontiac in action (Shayne Hunter)

44 was the number of Adam Pay when he was driving through the 1990s, started by having a crack at the great idea that was NASTRAK, won it, started competing and stuck with it for many years and still has the car today.

It has been an interesting couple of months following the progress of the Jake Frisch #4 Pontiac, the Eddie Ivermee #46 Oldsmobile (and the #86 Pontiac) and Phil Muffet’s two Pontiacs (not counting the #41 Thunderbird).

The majority of the cars the trio have are unfinished rollers, so they have an expensive and time-consuming process ahead of them, but progress is being made, and we will show you one bit of progress below.

A dummy block was lowered into the #46 engine bay last weekend and Eddie started to mock it up in order to make the engine mounts and gearbox mounts that he needs so when the real parts go in, it all fits nice and neatly.

Jeremy Gunson gave an update on his truck last Sunday in the ‘Stock Car Classics’ group; this Truck will later be the #4 in the Monster livery that Ricky Carmichael had, Ricky raced in the Truck series from 2009 until the end of the 2011 season.

This truck is a bit of a mystery too; it appears that the truck was made for a team that did not launch, was previously a Dodge and it was in Texas for some time before being moved on to a few places before ending up with Jeremy.

For Sale

There’s a range of options for buyers especially if they want to get in to Stock Cars Australia, there’s the #02 Ford Falcon Sportsman, a HQ Holden, a Toyota Tundra and from the Muscle Division there is a VT Commodore and an FG Falcon Ute all up for sale.

Don’t forget potential owners/drivers, you’ll never be alone in Stock Cars Australia, somebody will always help you the best that they can.

Most Wanted

We are looking for anybody who may know where this ex-Brad Jones, ex-Kim Jane Lumina with Oldsmobile parts (like the rear) came from before Brad Jones owned it, we have two different opinions, one is that it came from George Elliot (he isn’t sure about that) and the other is it came from Walter Giles (the Giles family doesn’t believe that).

The right side 3/4 window is considered key, it looks very similar to the right 3/4 window of the Ron Goodman #05 Oldsmobile at the Gold Coast in 1992 as it doesn’t look very Oldsmobile like, they both look Lumina like.

Unfortunately, we have not found a similar but clear photo of the #05 Oldsmobile’s right side to accurately compare the two to rule it in or rule it out, this car was the ex-George Elliot Oldsmobile as stated in the Round 4 1991/92 programme, it was originally claimed as a car purchased from George but a later publication sent it was a ‘lent’ (leased) car from George.

One quirk is that depending on where you stand, the 3/4 window can appear to be different.

This auctioned off Lumina appears to have the same kind of 3/4 window

Somebody out there has to know for sure, Brad Jones getting a ride car had to be a pretty big deal as he only had ‘Elroy’ on hand early on, plus a ride car is a nice way to get more Stock Car laps in too.

We’re still looking for anybody who has a written account on where Ian Thomas got his 1992/93 Oldsmobile from, opinion is split between Doug Taylor building it and Doug Taylor reconditioning it meaning it came from somebody else.

There’s a chance that Auto Action’s report of Round 1 of the 1992/93 season may describe the origin of the car as reporters occasionally mentioned where race cars came from for example the Round 4 report tells how Kim Jane had Terri Sawyer’s Pontiac.

That’s it for this week, another interesting week in the Australian Stock Car world, never a dull moment, just the way we all like it to be.

See you next week.
