There are 50 days to go until Round 3 of the Australian Stock Car Championship is held at Winton Raceway (August 29-30).

Before that, the SCA AUSCAR field is going to Winton to participate in the 2026 edition of the Winton Festival of Speed from July 23 to 26 2026 along with other AUSCAR and Sportsman owners as well as many other racing categories.

There has been a change of plans for the #71 Ford Falcon, Alex Hollier will be behind the wheel of the car for the event.

An interesting part of the change of plans was the fact that Jamey Hollier mentioned an XF Falcon, new cars or returning cars always get people interested and we look forward to seeing the XF Falcon that they have in the future.

News of the AUSCARs being at Winton has been spread further by an article by V8 Sleuth’s staff which is a good thing as they have a big readership and that means more potential opportunities.

Remember that if you see somebody wishing that NASCAR or AUSCAR was back in Australia, give them a link to Stock Cars Australia, the more that are informed that it exists, the bigger that things will become.

You may have seen this Chevrolet Lumina for sale earlier this week, the ad tells precisely the shape it is in and its Australian history, but we are here to tell you a little about its American history.

The car started life as an Oldsmobile for Aroneck Racing, it was the #53 and it was given the team car number 3 as it was designated for Super Speedway use at tracks like Daytona, Charlotte and Atlanta.

It appeared at the 1990 Daytona 500 and was driven by Jerry O’Neil to a 31st place finish, the above image is from the 1990 Daytona 500 and Jerry actually drove one race for the No. 2 team that same season.

The car was prepared by Doug Taylor, and this information came from Danny Crump who worked at Aroneck Racing and was very happy to answer our questions about the car when we done some research a while back after being curious about the Aroneck plate on the car.

There are plenty of Stock Cars in Australia with then Winston Cup history, Stock Cars Australia’s #3 Lumina was an ex-Race Cars & Engines #31 car, and the #41 Ford Thunderbird was a #19 Little Racing car.

Quite a number of cars in Australia were either prepared by Doug Taylor or came from NASTRAK who got a number of their cars from Race Cars & Engines, some came from those who brought from Blue Max Racing.

We welcome all new followers to our Facebook page, we currently have 480 followers and 19 following, if those 19 are different to the 480 then we are sitting on a combined total of 499, one person away from the 500 milestone, that milestone would be worth celebrating.

Information Most Wanted

We are looking for whereabouts of cars and finding out parts of histories on a couple of cars, we’ve had some success in finding cars that have

In 2023, the above #2 Chevrolet that was raced in ARCA was spotted in South Australia and Victoria, it has not been mentioned since, where did it go?

The car was driven in ARCA by Dustin Hapka in 2012 for Wayne Hixson; he drove it at Elko Speedway and Kansas Speedway for 18th and 32nd place finishes.

Last reports suggested that the car was being auctioned, hopefully it is still in the country.

One thing that has puzzled us is that Bob Middleton was driving the #95 at Calder Park Thunderdome in 1999 looking like the above, in 2026 he was driving the #85 in Adelaide and its interior looked the exact same including the red square seen on the right side, a feature seen in Phil Barkdoll’s cars.

Either the #85 and the #95 look exactly the same (and are both ex-Phil Barkdoll cars) or the #95 later became the #85, we’re curious to find out what’s the story.

Do you know the fate of this Ford Thunderbird? It is an ex-Charlie O’Brien car (it is not the #41 Ford Thunderbird) that was driven by Pete Nolan in 1999, it was last known to have been owned by a Rodney Brewer and was the #6, the number was styled just like Mark Martin’s was at the time but it did not have a Valvoline livery.

On the subject of a Ford Thunderbird, if there is anybody in contact with Martin Borrows, we would like to find out what happened to his Ford Thunderbirds, we are hoping that they are still around somewhere as the Thunderbirds are in small numbers and the more that we find, the better.

Does anybody know where the #88 Ford Fusion has gone? It has been a couple of years since it was last mentioned.

Does anybody know who ordered two Commodores for the 2000/01 season, a season that did not happen which resulted in the two cars remaining in the USA? The above car is one of the two.

Now that we firmly believe that the #8/#27 ride car turned #3 Lumina was originally an ex-#31 Race Cars & Engines Oldsmobile that was then used by NASTRAK/George Elliot, we are hoping to find out if the car that was leased out to Ron Goodman in 1992 is the same car, it is also theorised that Walter Giles used it when he went between Buick and Chevrolet Lumina eras.

That’s it for this edition of Aussie Stock Car News, thank you for coming.

See you next week.
