Bob Jane did not like races finishing under yellow, so a rule was devised to extend the race after a late race caution to achieve a green flag result, this was well ahead of the popular green-white-chequer system in the United States.

A woman won an Australian NASCAR race, Terri Sawyer was the one to do it and she also won the first AUSCAR race as well.

Stock Cars have raced in Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales.

Rusty French is the only person to win both a V8 Stock Cars race and a Stock Cars Australia race.

Some publications have said that Jim Richards won the first AUSCAR title, he did not as it was Tony Kavich who was the inaugural AUSCAR champion in 1988, Jim finished second.

Johnny Rutherford’s last Stock Car race was at Calder Park Thunderdome in December 1988, he drove the #31 Oldsmobile, that car ended up in the hands of George Elliot, the location of the chassis is currently unknown though it may be closer than most think.

In the V8 Stock Cars 2001 and 2002 seasons, it was not uncommon for drivers to appear for only a round and while some of them had different numbers, they all had the same car.

There are ex Cup series, Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series vehicles in Australia.

Zac O’Hara was the first person to drive a Cup car, an OzTruck and an SCA AUSCAR in the one Stock Cars Australia season, this was accomplished in 2023.

Kim Jane’s championship winning #27 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is the #27 of Zac O’Hara in Stock Cars Australia and before Zac had taken ownership of the car, it was owned by Rusty French.

Kim Jane in 1989 said, “Half the blokes are pussycats and don’t have a fair dinkum go” when commenting on AUSCAR drivers and went on to say, “They power away down the straights, then tippy toe through the banked turns switching lines and making life difficult for drivers coming through trying to make a decent race of it.”

Kim Jane didn’t name anybody when it came to the above comments.

Fred Seery was the subject of a half-hour special on Win-TV in December 1989.

John Bowe may be the first person to put a Stock Car into the wall at the Thunderdome, this happened during tests in 1987.

Ford won only one Stock Car championship and one AUSCAR championship in the Bob Jane era of 1988-2000.

Kim Jane won more races than any other Stock Car driver in Australia between 1988 and 2000, he passed Jim Richards at Albert Park in 2000.

Max Dumesny won four Thunderdome meetings in a row between 28/3/93 and 5/12/93.

Max Dumesny won nine out of twelve Thunderdome meets between 28/3/93 and 2/12/95, those nine were all of his Stock Car wins.

Jim Richards won five Stock Car races in a row on the Gold Coast from 21/3/93 to 20/3/95.

It was not unusual for George Elliot to drive ex-NASTRAK cars, he had done it at least twice.

Kevin Schwantz and Rodney Combs won two races each, Kevin won at Oran Park and Adelaide International Raceway while Rodney won at Calder Park Thunderdome and Adelaide International Raceway.

Ford has won a Stock Cars Australia championship; it was won by Scott Nind in 2023.

While racing at the Thunderdome stopped in 1999, racing did happen at Barbagallo and Albert Park in 2000, Stock Car racing was then reformed in 2001 as V8 Stock Cars and was solely circuit racing.

Three Thunderdome races in a row were won by a person with the name of or had a variation of the name Terry, Terry Labonte won on 2/12/90, Terri Sawyer won on 3/3/91 and Terry Byers won on 21/4/91, a fourth Terry, Terry Fisher won a race just two Thunderdome meets later on 1/12/91

While Graham Elliot’s #54 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was sitting sideways just off the final corner of Oran Park in 2001, George Elliot’s #55 veered right heading into the turn and collected leader Andrew Miedecke and while this happened Richard Howe avoided the three cars and taken the win.

Graham Elliot raced in Super Tin Tops in 2023, this is notable because the Super Tin Tops shared the track with Stock Cars Australia for qualifying at Sydney Motorsport Park, Brendan O’Connor who drives the #10 OzTruck also participated in Super Tin Tops.

Andrew Miedecke raced an OzTruck, it was the #77 OzTruck and it was raced in 2011 at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Andrew Miedecke drove in the Bob Jane era, the V8 Stock Cars era and the OzTruck era.

Andrew Miedecke and George Elliot both won in the Bob Jane era and the V8 Stock Cars era.

A couple of the cars that raced in V8 Stock Cars are owned by drivers in Stock Cars Australia.

AUSCAR and Sportsman had combined races at the Thunderdome, they also had a non-championship round at Calder Park Raceway after the 1998/99 season had concluded.

There was a category called Formula Falcon; it was absorbed into the Sportsman category.

Aussie Stock Car News was founded on December 26, 2015, it was a wet and miserable day outside, and it was originally called World of AUSCAR.

The #9 VT Commodore that currently races in Stock Cars Australia was a salt flats car for a couple of years after finishing its days as a Fastrack car.

Richard White Racing’s two-car team both raced at the same meet for the first time in March 2024 at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Richard White’s #8 Chevrolet Monte Carlo started its life at Joe Bessey Motorsports as the #60 Monte Carlo.

Charlie O’Brien’s #15 Ford Thunderbird and Phil Muffet’s #41 Ford Thunderbird are the same car; Gene Cook brought the car after his Falcon (the ex-Jerry Bowers #83) was destroyed in a wreck with Robert Tinworth and he named the new car after Charlie.

Phil Muffet owns the #1 Pontiac that was driven by Jim Richards, Terri Sawyer and Kim Jane (as the #27).

Dick Howe was Ford’s only winner in V8 Stock Cars, he scored two wins in the #11 Ford Thunderbird, the car was previously the #25 of Terry Wyhoon and it is now the #25 of Laurence Mckinnon in Stock Cars Australia.

It is not uncommon for people to get confused about Charlie O’Brien and Terry Wyhoon’s Stock Cars, both were Ford Thunderbirds, and both were sponsored by BP, but Charlie’s car was #15 and Terry’s was #25 and both cars didn’t race at the same time.

Jake Frisch drove the #3 Lumina for Richard White Racing at Sydney Motorsport Park in March 2024; Jake liked the experience so much he brought a Pontiac as a project car.

Calder Park Thunderdome has been blamed for a shortage of HQ Holden parts as accidents were common in the category though the cars have continued to race in large numbers to the present day.

Paul Stocker crashed his HQ Holden into the end of the pit wall in October 1992, Paul was injured in the crash but went on to race for many years and ended up driving the #48 Oldsmobile in Stock Cars.

One of Paul Stocker’s Oldsmobiles resurfaced in 2024 and was available to buy as a roller for $7500, the car was proclaimed to be Robin Best’s last Stock Car ride, but later research revealed it was an ex-Ian Thomas, John Faulkner, Eddie Abelnica and Paul Stocker car.

Eddie Abelnica won races in Sportsman, AUSCAR and Stock Car competition.

John Faulkner was going to race a Ford Thunderbird in the 1995/96 season; he went on a trip to the United States and found the Chevrolet Monte Carlo to be a better choice.

Frustrations with officials is a reason why some walked away from Stock Car racing.

Jamey Hollier not only raced in Sportsman and AUSCAR, but he also helped build some of the cars.

While the V8 Stock Cars era ended before anybody could bring in a Dodge to Australia, Trevor Crisp owns a #22 Dodge that was raced in the United States, Trevor has driven it in Stock Cars Australia events primarily at Winton Raceway.

One of the closest finishes in Calder Park Thunderdome history was saved for near last, Terry Wyhoon held off Kim Jane by three hundredths of a second (0.03 seconds) in one of the races that was last round at the Thunderdome.

Walter Giles’ Buick LeSabre was reportedly changed into a Chevrolet Lumina and then a Pontiac Grand Prix, it may still exist today.

At least three ex-Morgan-McClure Oldsmobile race cars existed in Australia, one definitely does exist in the present day.
