I love Stock Car video games, though in recent years there has been some shockers but every now and then you do find one that’s interesting.
While watching one of Radman’s videos on YouTube, there was a mention of the game ‘Draftycar‘ and it was on Steam, so I thought I’d spend the $10 or so on into this game and try it out.

‘Draftycar’ is a deceptive in a good way game, it may look like a simple game, but it isn’t and that is because while you have to race in a straight line, you also have to be in the draft all the time and then make the winning move.

As it is not an official game, you won’t have all the proper sponsors on the cars, but they are the cars that you know and love like the #3 of Earnhardt, the #24 of Jeff Gordon, the #88 of Dale Jarrett etc.

As the title suggests and what I have said before, drafting is key and once you get to the front, you can get an overhead shot by pressing V but you can’t see much behind you, so you get very little warning of who is coming up behind you but maybe that’s not a bad thing, you have to back your instincts and hope when you make a pass for the lead that another car joins you otherwise you’ll sink like a stone.
Try not to seize the lead too early, the less defending you have to do, the better for you, sometimes I can take the lead 60% through the race and get overrun by the 90% mark and lose by half a car length.
There is a leaderboard, and you’ll need over 200 wins to get to #1 but it does add some motivation to keep playing the game.

This game could be radically expanded, imagine getting to use the #3 or the #7 (see above) or any of the other cars to do you racing in or getting to drive one of the Australian Stock Cars like the #27 Repco Monte Carlo transformed into the #27 Retro car or something like that.
The game is great fun and for me it is perfect for filling in time when waiting for news or entries to come in for Stock Cars Australia rounds.
Happy Drafting!
