We are sixty-six days away from the start of the final round of the 2025 Australian Stock Car Championship season.
As we are a bit of a distance away from the round, now is a good time for a catch-up and report on what is to come in the future.
This could be the month that Aussie Stock Car News sets a new yearly record, we are currently 1,244 site hits away from last year’s total of 11,115.
Here is a mix of recent updates and what we are making for the future.

We’ve added more to the section on Darryl Speers, readers can now read about where Darryl finished in all eleven seasons of AUSCAR action.
The above photo is interesting because the engine in the #31 (Darryl Speers) was done by the guy in the #58 (Dave Weatherhead).
You can follow the Jamie Jordan’s restoration progress with the car in the present day at AUSCAR #31.

We’ve added more to the story of the #41 Ford Thunderbird, when the late Gene Cook brought the car to replace his destroyed Ford Falcon, he specifically mentioned it was Charlie O’Brien’s Thunderdome car and not the road course one, it is the little details in articles from the past that make the story richer in the future.

We’ve started putting together a report on the #1 Pontiac, this car was driven by Jim Richards, Terri Sawyer and we believe it was also used by Kim Jane at least once when he needed a car in the 1992/93 season, Auto Action reported he used an ‘ex-Terri Sawyer Pontiac’ in Round 4 of that season.
It is going to be a while before we can post it as we’re going to do a step-by-step report on Phil Muffet’s restoration of the car and that is going to take some time to accomplish.
We have also started to prepare a report on the #02 Oldsmobile/#7 Buick/#17 Buick that is now considered the #02 Pontiac, that one is also a long-range report.

We continue to try and trace the history of the #14/#23/#46/#9 and #6 Oldsmobile.
There are two beliefs, Doug Taylor built it, and Doug Taylor had only reconditioned it and so we got to find something from 1992 that says it is one or the other.
We’ve found that it is a really small world when it came to car selling, Doug Taylor worked with Aroneck Racing and Ian Thomas had an Aroneck car, we know that Doug Taylor worked with Phil Barkdoll and Ian had a Phil Barkdoll car.
So, maybe Doug Taylor sourced the Oldsmobile from a team that he worked with, or Doug really did put a new car together for Ian and it debuted at Michigan in June 1992.
We’re also trying to figure out which Ian Thomas car was named ‘Intrepid’, we’ve been told the car Ian debuted in was Intrepid but a photograph of the car under John Faulkner’s ownership has an ‘Intrepid’ sticker on the dash.
Is it possible that the ex-Morgan-McClure car that Ian debuted in and is thought to be Intrepid is not Intrepid or did somebody give John Faulkner Racing the wrong car nickname?

We are still trying to trace the history of the ride car known as George, many know of the car, but we have no proof to link the car to either George Elliot or Walter Giles (or Walter giving to George who gave to Brad) giving Brad Jones a car.
We’re hoping that we find a Brad Jones article from 1993 or 1994 that will say that he had acquired a ride car from either person, or one gave the car that originated from the other.
We know people say, ‘why don’t they just accept what we’re saying’ and the answer is that when people want something that has history, they want proof.

We’ve been keeping you up to date on the latest work by Jeremy Gunson as he works on his #4 Chevrolet Silverado.
We’ll be releasing a report on the truck’s history and how it was restored for driving and we will update it every time he takes it to a track.

We’ll also have a report on the complete work done by Jake Frisch Motorsport on the #4 Pontiac (formerly the #6 Oldsmobile), above is a rendering of what the Pontiac could look like in the future.

We also have a report in progress on the #1 VT Commodore; this car was unveiled in December 1999 but unfortunately Stock Car fans just missed out seeing this VT Commodore race on the Thunderdome, but it has raced in Stock Cars Australia which was good to see and will be good to see in the future.

Also in the future, a report on the #5/#7 Chevrolet Monte Carlo previously driven by Max Dumesny and Barry Blake, it is now owned by Richard White.

We will also have a report on the #38 Ford Falcon owned by Cole Davis; it was first the #38 then the #15 and then it became the #77 before ending up being used at One Raceway, it was sold and then it finally ended up in Cole Davis’ possession, missing a ton of bits.

Also in the pipeline is the history of the #25 Ford Thunderbird, this one is owned by Laurence Mckinnon and has been driven by Morgan Shepherd, Terry Wyhoon and Dick Howe.
There’s plenty of histories to come in the future and if you have a Stock Car, AUSCAR, GTA, Truck or OzTruck and you want the story told, drop us a line any time.
