Jake Frisch’s efforts into getting the history of his Lawes Brothers Pontiac got plenty of attention, 97 likes for his post but no bites.

As you can see its VIN number was 0042, underneath the paint of the interior is the colour orange, orange of course is a Lawes standard but as nobody can get hold of them (messages to them may be in requests and no answer to tags) knowing all about this car has not been possible, Mark Harrison may know the answer and will be contacted as soon as possible.

Research continues on for the history of the cars that graced the Thunderdome and other places, Terry Wyhoon’s #25 Australian made Thunderbird was moved on and became the #96 of John Maultsaid and it was later in the hands of Mat Lagoon and now it is the #69 of Noel Heenan who runs on the salt flats.

The second Charlie O’Brien Thunderbird (not the #41) found its way to Gasoline Alley Motorsports in the V8 Stock Cars era (the #47 and #77 team), now to find out where it went after that.

We’re still getting nowhere on the #3 Lumina, this car was the #8 ride car and after that was the #27 ride car, the car came to Brad Jones via George Elliot, but nobody (including George and Brad) knows for sure what the car was before it went to Brad Jones.

Like the Lawes Pontiac, there was a layer of paint under the interior paint, in this case it is light pink, cars that were pink around that time were Walter Giles’ and Ron Goodman’s, it is entirely possible the pink belonged to an American based car before being shipped over.

There’s conflicting information on Ron Goodman’s Oldsmobile, stories are that the Oldsmobile that he got from George Elliot was turned into the well-known 05 Commodore after it twice shortened the #17 Buick in the 1992 Gold Coast race and reappeared in the 1993/94 season as the Commodore, another report says that Ron gave the car back to George after that Gold Coast round.

Somebody who worked for NASTRAK or George Elliot must have noticed a car with a light pink interior, it is not common.

Figuring out this mystery is a major goal of ASCN’s, over a hundred hours has been put into trying to figure it out, hopefully today somebody has the answer.

Thank you to V8 Sleuth for selling Motorsport News editions, made life easier.

The last fortnight has been a sad journey reading through Motorsport News, from getting detailed race reports in the mid 1990’s to getting the above in 2002 as the interest fell away in the sport.

One interesting bit about Motorsport News was that the section ‘National Scene’ where most of the V8 Stock Cars reports were published in was edited by none other than Aaron Noonan, he sure has come a long way since the beginning years of the century.

If you’re interested in spending $3.50 per issue and read about up and comers like Mark Webber, Craig Lowndes, Greg Murphy, Will Power and many more plus find out all the moves of Stock Car competitors from cars going from Oldsmobile to Chevrolet, the opening of facilities and more, visit here and start from edition 1 and make your way up about 175 editions

That’s it for this week, we don’t usually write on the week of a race round, but it is just too enjoyable to not do anything on this Friday night.

See you next week.

    1. Thank you.

Next year you’ll be there and maybe other places too showing just how good the car you’ve got is.
