While waiting for the 2026 season to come, a lot of time has been put into going through newspaper archives trying to dot all the i’s and cross all the t’s when it comes to racing car history as well as cataloguing the latest build updates of cars.
Occasionally the newspaper search comes up with something very interesting, and it has to be looked at more closely.

An article got our attention, Holden Commodore looking Stock Cars in America, as you know there are a few in Australia but are not considered ugly old Stock Cars with dodgy Holden grilles.
So, we went looking for these US based Holden Stock Cars and it turns out that yes there were two Holden Commodore looking Stock Cars at Pikes Peak, they were Monte Carlos rebadged and given the Holden look.
The cars went on to successfully compete at the 2000 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and were driven by Layne Schranz and Rick Johnson.

One car ended up at Barrett-Jackson, the famous car auction people and it was sold in 2009.
The question now is who ordered two Monte Carlos to be turned into Holdens to race in 2000/01? a season that sadly never got to take place though we did have V8 Stock Cars in 2001 and most of 2002.
