There are 92 days to go until the first round of the 2026 season gets underway at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Entries are now open for the event, it is early, but we will keep it up here weekly, so when the time comes for drivers to put their entries in, they will know where to find it.

Formula Ford, AASA Tin Tops, Formula RX8 and Legend Cars are also on the bill for April 25-26 with action taking place under lights and on the Druitt circuit.

AASA is having a combine at Winton on February 18 and 19 if anybody is interested, further details can be found here, it is considered to be a dress rehearsal or scratch match to get competitors used to 2026 rules etc.

The round at Calder Park which was scheduled for November 7-8 has been pushed back one week to November 14-15 to avoid a clash with Supercars who are at Sandown November 7-8.

Supercars being at Sandown have brought about some scheduling havoc with Historic Sandown being cancelled for 2026 as Supercars got given that date and a packed schedule for the track/horse racing complex left it with no room for a new date.

Richard White Racing has been working on their race winning Lumina for the 2026 season, as you can see the old Brad Jones/Kim Jane ride car eras paint can be seen.

We checked in with Paul Botheras this week, he has an engine being worked on for the #14 Holden Commodore, further research on the car indicates that it is likely the car was the #4 that James Harrington was seen using in AUSCAR as the team was selling one VL Commodore in 1992 and the late Andrew Rhodes-Anderson had a VL Commodore from that team when he competed in Sportsman competition.

V8 Sleuth reported today that Tabitha Ambrose will be driving the #9 Ford Fusion at Queensland Raceway in a test and will then drive it at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival, this news has grabbed plenty of attention and has raised hopes that an Ambrose will race in SCA sometime in the 2026 season.

Continuing on with V8 Sleuth, issue two of their magazine will have a story on the #86 Pontiac, those who read us regularly will know that it was the #47 Buick that Bob Jane brought to Australia, it was wrecked in tests of the Thunderdome, the car then became the #7 Pontiac during more Thunderdome tests, and then it was the #5 Munday owned Pontiac and then it was the #86 Pontiac and it was run until it was outlawed and then after a long time, the chassis was brought by Eddie Ivermee who had then brought a Buick for its body panels and the chassis will be surrounded by a Buick body once again sometime in the future after his Oldsmobile and other projects are done.

The V8 Sleuth article will be more detailed than the above so do check it out when it is published.

Here’s something for the history collection, a Real McCoy hat and it is not in too bad of shape considering its age, it is recommended that those who look through eBay for NASCAR items to look deep as you can find goodies on page 15 or even further.

One item found and purchased was a Dale Earnhardt Jr AC Delco t-shirt, though there was one problem with that description, the car had #4 on it and one driver in Australia had a #4 AC Delco car around, Ken James.

The #8 Monte Carlo is for sale, this car was built in 1999 for Joe Bessey and was run in Winston Cup competition, it was driven by Geoff Bodine and other drivers in 1999 and 2000, it went on to be raced in SCCA competition and then it was brought to Australia by Graham Booth and it has been around SCA since the very beginning.

Don’t worry fans, Richard White Racing isn’t going anywhere, they’ve got plenty of Stock Car racing left in them for the future with a very interesting project ahead, one that will be greatly helped by a sale.

Information Most Wanted

We are looking for parts of histories on a couple of cars, the problem we have is that while people have given us answers, the answers do differ and so we seek written, verbal or visual proof to sort the histories out.

Paul Scicluna is looking for information on his #12 Pontiac Grand Prix.

This Pontiac raced at the Grand Prix round in 1999, it finished 23rd, 10th and 16th for the weekend.

The information we have received is that the car came from Les Kennewell and he got it from Robert Tinworth.

Determining which car from the Tinworth team is not as straight forward as Robert Tinworth said ‘l had 5 of them’ when asked about his cars in 2020.

An advertisement in January 1997 offered four Pontiacs for sale, two front steer cars with 23-degree engines and two rear steer cars that were to be sold as rollers.

One car that gets mentioned a lot is the ex-Kyle Petty Pontiac that was later the Harrington Commodore and then the Tinworth Pontiac, we’ve read somewhere it was sold a few years ago which if true would not be the car we seek as Paul has had his car since before 2000.

So, if you know the answer, please let us know.

Where did this ride car come from?

We are looking for anybody who may know with absolute certainty where the above ex-Brad Jones, ex-Kim Jane Chevrolet Lumina ride car nicknamed ‘George’ came from before Brad Jones got it.

We have two different opinions on this car; one is that Brad Jones got it from George Elliot (George isn’t sure about that) and the other is that it came from Walter Giles (the Giles family doesn’t believe that) and both arguments are very confident that they are correct.

It has been suggested that it is the Buick LeSabre of Walter Giles, we haven’t found anything to confirm or refute that, a report has been found that Walter’s original chassis went to Mark Harrison but we’re still looking into it.

The car does have an AUSCAR VIN of A 053 which indicates that it was competition used by somebody.

The car has Oldsmobile parts like the rear bumper, roofline and deck lid, it has Lumina 3/4 windows, and the front was added later on than the rest of the body as its earliest paint is Brad Jones white.

On the dash there is an imprint of a square on the right side indicating that a plate was there at some time, had this remained we would have likely known its origin.

This covered up piece was from the BJR era and earlier era.

Pink was found in the surviving layers of body paint pointing its history towards Ron Goodman’s car for the Gold Coast in 1992 and Walter Giles who also had pink cars.

What happened to this car?

The #05 Ron Goodman Oldsmobile was an ex-George Elliot Oldsmobile as stated in the Round 4 1991/92 programme, it was originally claimed to be a car purchased from George, but a later publication said it was ‘lent’ (leased) to Ron by George, and it was given back to George.

The trail for that particular car goes cold after Gold Coast 1992.

As you can see, the right side of this Oldsmobile has a Lumina 3/4 window which is very interesting.

It appears that the Ron Goodman #05 also has a Lumina 3/4 window on its left side too making it a very odd-looking Oldsmobile, just as odd as ‘George’ is.

It would be interesting to know why the Oldsmobile was selected instead of a Lumina, was the #05 originally all Lumina? or was it previously all Oldsmobile and it was in the middle of a reskin?

Assuming it is the Elliot car, either George’s team fully changed the Goodman Oldsmobile into a Lumina after it was given back, or they just replaced the front to a Chevrolet Lumina after the Olds one took a beating on the Gold Coast, and it then served as a ride car with an Olds rear bumper.

Hopefully somebody who worked on George’s team in 1992 recalls a car going to Ron Goodman and then getting it back after the Gold Coast and knowing where it went next.

Somebody out there has to know for sure, Brad Jones getting a ride car had to be a pretty big deal as he only had ‘Elroy’ on hand early on, plus a ride car is a nice way to get more Stock Car laps in too and we believe that would make the car newsworthy.
