Would you believe us if we said that Sam Gibson’s first Stock Car experience was at Friday practice in Richard White Racing’s #3 Chevrolet Lumina?
Would you believe us if we said that Sam topped Practice/Warmup on Saturday?
Would you believe us if we said that Sam would win two races and finish second twice to win the weekend?
You should because it is all true and we’ll tell you all about it.
Sam first slid into the #3 Chevrolet Lumina for the first time on Friday Practice and made great use of the multiple practice sessions that were held on a beautiful day.
He would qualify fifth on Saturday morning in wet conditions and things were looking good for the #3 team.
The first race conditions that afternoon was worse than qualifying as water settled on the track in parts and the Stock Cars had no wipers.
The conditions were so bad that a large puddle had put experienced campaigner Mick Heppleston into the wall but Sam in his first Stock Car race held on, he gained three positions and was right behind team boss Richard White when the chequered flag flew.
Race 2 was even crazier weather as there was more water on the track leading to several instances of cars and trucks aquaplaning but Sam made his way into the lead and kept it despite the best efforts of his boss to pass him and so Sam was now a Stock Cars Australia race winner.
Race 3 which was held on Sunday was a unique challenge as the field had to gamble on whether to have slicks on or put on wets, a rain shower soaked the drying circuit just as the cars came out but Sam racked up a second place finish behind Phil Muffet after rounding up Jeff Stubbs on the last lap.
His last lap in Race 3 was a 1:14.8330, fastest lap of the race with Jeff Stubbs next with a time of 1:16.5608.
Race 4 saw Sam make his way to the front after a clutch issue sent Phil Muffet into the sand at turn one and brought out the safety car.
Sam would go on to win the race ahead of Richard White and Daniel Stubbs who was in the #45 Dodge Challenger for the first time.

It was a triumphant weekend for Richard White Racing, the team taken home three wins, with Sam winning two and Richard one.

Sam won the round as he won two races and finished second in two other races (2nd, 1st, 2nd, 1st).
What’s next for Sam? Education is very important to Sam and so he has to balance learning with racing, a wise move for the future having the best of both worlds.
Sam made a lot of fans on the weekend and not just because of his driving skills but also because of his friendliness too, everybody loved having a chat with him between races.
We hope to see him race again sometime in 2026.
