There are 71 days to go until Round 5 racing action takes place at Calder Park Raceway, 70 days to go if you count the optional Friday practice.

Zac and team are working hard to find as many cars and vehicles as possible, if you have a Stock Car, AUSCAR, GTA, OzTruck or a car suitable for Muscle Division and you want to participate by racing or by having your vehicle on display, contact Stock Cars Australia as soon as you can.

Jack Perkins earlier this week revealed what his #19 Toyota Supra will look like this weekend at Portland International Raceway, V8 Sleuth have also reported on the history of the car’s chassis.

Jack will not be alone at Portland as he will have some Australian company too (see below).

Kaulig Racing shown off Will Brown’s ride for Portland and Will Brown looks very happy with the #11 Chevrolet, hopefully we’ll see both the #19 Toyota and the #11 Chevrolet up the pointy end of the field.

We have news from the #31 Holden Commodore team; the car has a nice new steering wheel, and the car also has exhaust, you got to love the confidence of the #31 team, their right-hand mirror says, ‘objects in mirror are losing’.

Now to the latest from the #46 Oldsmobile team, Eddie picked up some more parts last weekend and put them to good use on the Oldsmobile and he also picked up some top arms for the #47/#5/#86 Buick/Pontiac.

After the dummy block is removed, it will be time to do some welding and then start the preparations for painting.

Jeremy Gunson has moved closer to the #4 Chevrolet Silverado looking complete, unfortunately lost mail has halted the placing of the number four on the sides of the truck but when replacements do arrive, we will show you the results.

If you would like to have news about your vehicle posted, drop us a line at ASCN or by emailing ryanstevenson@aussiestockcarnews.com.

Roy Ellery has today released a nine-minute video of the racing action from One Raceway, hopefully all the vehicles you see in the video plus more will be at Calder Park in November.

While opening a 1992/93 programme from the round at Adelaide International Raceway this week, a piece of paper fell out and it turned out to be the programme for the January 27, 1990, race.

It was the second race held at the track and the 50-lap race was won by Fred Seery in the #9 VN Commodore.

V8 Sleuth’s Will Dale last Saturday reported on Richard White Racing‘s #3 Lumina being at Brad Jones Racing just before the round at One Raceway, the article caused a rise in interest in the car and in Stock Cars Australia.

Our search to confirm the origin of the now #3 Lumina continues, our new plan is to try and confirm how many Winston Cup teams used a Banjo chassis in 1988 and how many of them had sold them to Australians.

One possible complication is the car could have been used in Winston West just like the Ian Clarkson Holden Commodore and the Stevenson (no relation)/Harman Commodore, both of those and others came from Winston West teams, we are looking high and low through the internet for the answer.

Earlier in the week, I was messing around with NASCAR Racing 2003 and found that there are a lot of mods and fan made tracks for it and that includes the Thunderdome and a range of cars including the #06 Pontiac of Terry Byers.

Earlier this year there was a picture of the #55 Lumina being developed for the game, hopefully that work has continued on and we will get to use more Australian and New Zealand options in the near future.

For Sale

There are 71 days to go until the 2025 edition of the Calder Classic, you’re looking for a car to buy to be part of the show this year and into the future, we have an option for you, it’s the #02 Ford Falcon XF Sportsman and the selling price is $20,000.

Let’s tell you a bit about it, it was driven by Tony Howlett and after the Thunderdome was closed, it was stored in a shed for many years until purchased by Brad Hall who found it to be in great condition, and he quickly got it into track running condition as you see in the photographs.

It has a 302 Cleveland engine and a 4-speed gearbox, an in-date harness has been installed so you the driver will cut laps on any track in great safety.

While the price may make some initially hesitant, remember that everything has been done for you, there is no need to source an engine or gearbox etc. which are both costly items, there is no need to spend months or years working on it, there is no need to make the car look good it is all there ready for you to race against the likes of the #54 Falcon, the #6 Falcon and many other fine AUSCAR/Sportsman vehicles four-five times a year.

Are you interested? Contact Brad Hall for further discussion.

Most Wanted

Take a look at the left 3/4 window hatch on this Oldsmobile, it is the only Oldsmobile that Ian Thomas had that had this hatch, the question is where did the Olds come from? this car was used in one ARCA race in 1992 before being used for the 1992/93 Australian season.

Opinion is split, some say Doug Taylor built it, and some say it came from TriStar Motorsports, what we know for sure is that the car was sold by Ian Thomas to John Faulkner before the 1993/94 season and it ran with John, Eddie Abelnica and Paul Stocker until the end of the 2001 V8 Stock Car season when it was driven by Doug Moss (Paul Stocker as owner).

David Williamson from Australian Motor Heritage Foundation has been a great help to us by checking editions of Aussie Racing Car News and while we had no luck David did give us two AUSCAR articles, please consider looking around the site and also consider being a supporter for $9 per year.

We are looking for anybody who may know with absolute certainty where the above ex-Brad Jones, ex-Kim Jane ride car Lumina that has Oldsmobile parts (like the rear bumper) came from before Brad Jones owned it, we have two different opinions, one is that it came from George Elliot (he isn’t sure about that) and the other is it came from Walter Giles (the Giles family doesn’t believe that) and both sides are very confident that they are correct.

It has been suggested that it is Walter Giles Buick LeSabre, we haven’t found anything to confirm or refute that, a report has been found that Walter’s original chassis went to Mark Harrison but we’re still looking into it.

The right side 3/4 window of the car is considered key; it is a Lumina 3/4 window; it is considered odd because it is surrounded by Oldsmobile parts like the rear bumper.

This covered up piece was from the BJR era and earlier era.

Pink was found underneath in the surviving layers of paint pointing its history towards Ron Goodman’s car for the Gold Coast in 1992 and Walter Giles who also had pink cars.

The #05 Ron Goodman Oldsmobile was an ex-George Elliot Oldsmobile as stated in the Round 4 1991/92 programme, it was originally claimed to be a car purchased from George, but a later publication said it was ‘lent’ (leased) to Ron by George, and it was given back to George.

As you can see, the right side of this Oldsmobile has a Lumina 3/4 window.

It appears that the Ron Goodman #05 also has a Lumina 3/4 window on its left side too making it a very odd-looking Oldsmobile.

It would be interesting to know why the Oldsmobile was selected instead of a Lumina, was the #05 originally all Lumina? or was it previously all Oldsmobile and it was in the middle of a reskin?

Assuming it is the Elliot car, either George’s team fully changed the Goodman Oldsmobile into a Lumina after it was given back, or they just replaced the front to a Chevrolet Lumina after the Olds one took a beating on the Gold Coast, and it then served as a ride car with an Olds rear bumper.

Hopefully somebody who worked on George’s team in 1992 recalls a car going to Ron Goodman and then getting it back after the Gold Coast and knowing where it went next.

Somebody out there has to know for sure, Brad Jones getting a ride car had to be a pretty big deal as he only had ‘Elroy’ on hand early on, plus a ride car is a nice way to get more Stock Car laps in too.

See you next week.
