NASCAR games are quite popular especially the older PC games that can be modded to include different eras of cars in their own setting so you can race say the 1990 season if you wish.
NASCAR Racing 2003 for example has a big modding community and luckily for us there are some car models of those driven by drivers who competed in Australia in there.
Modders have made it possible to play the game on a modern PC, it does take a number of steps including some number editing, but it can be done.

There is also a version of Calder Park Thunderdome out there for those who have the game and want to give it a try, Daytona was used for this post as the track allows easier screen captures.

First car to have a go with was the #38 Ford Thunderbird of Dick Johnson, this one was part of the Cup90 mod with lots of options for players.

Then came the #06 of Terry Byers, this car had to be found and downloaded separately and then came the frustration, while it was on the car list as an opponent, the car couldn’t be selected.
After a bit of digging around google, it was discovered that there was a tiny error in the file name, there was a space where there shouldn’t be one and once that space was deleted and the file name saved, the #06 was ready to race.

Next up, there was a car set for the race held at Suzuka plus there’s some from Motegi, unfortunately the 1999 Winston West race at Motegi is not included but you do get to drive Jim Richards #09 Pontiac that he had driven at Suzuka.

Last but not least, the Dean Wanless #09 Pontiac, Dean raced twice in the Winston West series with a best finish of 8th at California Speedway, that race was won by Kevin Harvick.
We may be seeing more cars in the future; there was a Facebook post at the start of the year about the #55 George Elliot car being made but there has not been anything said since, hopefully we get to find out more soon.
