There are 78 days to go until Round 5 racing action takes place at Calder Park Raceway, 77 days to go if you count the optional Friday practice.

How close was Saturday’s rain to causing trouble? that close (Zac O’Hara)

Last week was Round 4 at One Raceway, it was a round that had it all from a small fire to close finishes, fast laps, an accidental collision, mechanical failures and more, see our Round 4 recap for all the details, you’ll find it under ‘2025 Stock Cars Australia Season’ in the menu.

If you need a Test & Tune Day at Calder Park Raceway, you have some opportunities below, contact Drive Events Pty Ltd if you are interested.

Don’t forget the Roll Call of vehicles in the AUSCAR Racing group, there are plenty of vehicles and their owners we haven’t seen and heard from in quite a while and hopefully we do get to hear from them soon.

The #4 Chevrolet Silverado that will be driven by Jeremy Gunson in Western Australia continues to be worked on, decals like the Silverado name and the Chevrolet bow tie have been added to the truck among other things.

Meanwhile at the #46 Oldsmobile team, progress continues with a gear shifter boot now in Eddie’s possession.

Roush Fenway Keselowski recently had a Supercars guest, Thomas Randle, meanwhile members of Triple Eight Race Engineering had also done some NASCAR visiting by naturally going to Trackhouse Racing.

Considering that SVG is scaring the heck out of some NASCAR fans especially those who don’t like foreigners, the sight of more Supercars drivers and team members checking out any of the NASCAR run series must be nightmare inducing stuff for them.

However, the 2026 schedule has revealed that there are schedule clashes so there’s going to be less of a Supercars invasion of NASCAR in 2026.

Jack Perkins who is having his birthday today is currently in America preparing for his second Xfinity series race, Will Brown will also be racing at Portland so there will be great interest in the race.

Are you needing some books to read? Try George Elliot’s three novels and there’s a fourth one on its way, the paperback versions are $26.40 (free postage) each or buy the Kindle versions for $6.99 each.

For Sale

There are 77 days to go until the 2025 edition of the Calder Classic, you’re looking for a car to buy to be part of the show this year and into the future, we have an option for you, it’s the #02 Ford Falcon XF Sportsman and the selling price is $20,000.

Let’s tell you a bit about it, it was driven by Tony Howlett and after the Thunderdome was closed, it was stored in a shed for many years until purchased by Brad Hall who found it to be in great condition, and he quickly got it into track running condition as you see in the photographs.

It has a 302 Cleveland engine and a 4-speed gearbox, an in-date harness has been installed so you the driver will cut laps on any track in great safety.

While the price may make some initially hesitant, remember that everything has been done for you, there is no need to source an engine or gearbox etc. which are both costly items, there is no need to spend months or years working on it, there is no need to make the car look good it is all there ready for you to race against the likes of the #54 Falcon, the #6 Falcon and many other fine AUSCAR/Sportsman vehicles four-five times a year.

Are you interested? Contact Brad Hall for further discussion.

If you are interested in a 1965 Ford Galaxie outer skin which is fitted on to a 1989 Randercar chassis with a McGunegill built 347 ci Windsor engine, here is the link if you want to check it out.

Most Wanted

Take a look at the left 3/4 window hatch on this Oldsmobile, it is the only Oldsmobile that Ian Thomas had that had this hatch, the question is where did the Olds come from? this car was used in one ARCA race in 1992 before being used for the 1992/93 Australian season.

Opinion is split, some say Doug Taylor built it, and some say it came from TriStar Motorsports, what we know for sure is that the car was sold by Ian Thomas to John Faulkner before the 93/94 season and it ran with John, Eddie Abelnica and Paul Stocker until the end of the 2001 V8 Stock Car season when it was driven by Doug Moss (Paul Stocker as owner).

Hopefully some 1992 publication will be found, and it will spill the beans on the history and settle the debate once and for all.

We are looking for anybody who may know with absolute certainty where the above ex-Brad Jones, ex-Kim Jane ride car Lumina that has Oldsmobile parts (like the rear bumper) came from before Brad Jones owned it, we have two different opinions, one is that it came from George Elliot (he isn’t sure about that) and the other is it came from Walter Giles (the Giles family doesn’t believe that) and both sides are very confident that they are correct.

It has been suggested that it is Walter Giles Buick LeSabre, we haven’t found anything to confirm or refute that, a report has been found that Walter’s original chassis went to Mark Harrison but we’re still looking into it.

The right side 3/4 window of the car is considered key; it is a Lumina 3/4 window; it is considered odd because it is surrounded by Oldsmobile parts like the rear bumper.

This covered up piece was from the BJR era and earlier era.

Pink was found underneath in the surviving layers of paint pointing its history towards Ron Goodman’s car for the Gold Coast in 1992 and Walter Giles who also had pink cars.

The #05 Ron Goodman Oldsmobile was an ex-George Elliot Oldsmobile as stated in the Round 4 1991/92 programme, it was originally claimed to be a car purchased from George, but a later publication said it was ‘lent’ (leased) to Ron by George, and it was given back to George.

As you can see, the right side of this Oldsmobile has a Lumina 3/4 window.

It appears that the Ron Goodman #05 also has a Lumina 3/4 window on its left side too making it a very odd-looking Oldsmobile.

It would be interesting to know why the Oldsmobile was selected instead of a Lumina, was the #05 originally all Lumina? or was it previously all Oldsmobile and it was in the middle of a reskin?

Assuming it is the Elliot car, either George’s team fully changed the Goodman Oldsmobile into a Lumina after it was given back, or they just replaced the front to a Chevrolet Lumina after the Olds one took a beating on the Gold Coast, and it then served as a ride car with an Olds rear bumper.

Hopefully somebody who worked on George’s team in 1992 recalls a car going to Ron Goodman and then getting it back after the Gold Coast and knowing where it went next.

Somebody out there has to know for sure, Brad Jones getting a ride car had to be a pretty big deal as he only had ‘Elroy’ on hand early on, plus a ride car is a nice way to get more Stock Car laps in too.

See you next week.
