There are 15 days to go until Round 4 action of the 2025 Australian Stock Car Championship takes place at One Raceway.

Entries are now coming in and will likely do so right up to the cutoff time of 10am on August 13.

So far, we’ve got Jeff Stubbs in the #45 TA2 Dodge, Daniel Stubbs in the #19 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Richard White in the #8 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Brad Lighton in the #26 Holden Commodore and Michael Rice in the #108 Holden Commodore.

The field will increase in size so don’t worry fans, most like to put their entries in late in the going.

The late John Sheppard when he visited Jake Frisch Motorsport in January 2025.

Last weekend was a sad one, the world learned that John Sheppard had passed away, John played a major part in the shaping of Australian Stock Car racing with his team building the original batch of locally assembled cars, the plan called for four cars each for Ford, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick and Oldsmobile

John visited Jake Frisch Motorsport on January 26 of this year, he spent quite a bit of time there that day, looking at the #4 Pontiac that the team is currently building and telling the team many stories, the chassis used by the #4 Pontiac is one of the twenty with its original body being an Oldsmobile.

The AUSCAR 31 page is nearing its first anniversary, they have delivered a new update including news that seat mounts have been purchased and that the splitter alloy has been purchased and has been cut.

Botheras Racing have sourced an engine for their #14 Holden Commodore and have gained Mackz Performance as a sponsor as well.

The #4 Chevrolet Silverado of Jeremy Gunson is looking good, it has been given its second coat of black paint, on the left of the photo is the engine that will go into the truck.

There are at least two trucks and two stock cars in Western Australia, hopefully they’ll get more and have their own series as travelling east and vice versa is an expensive prospect.

Over at the #46 Oldsmobile team, Eddie Ivermee has got rid of a shock mount that he described as ‘disgusting’, Eddie reported that he was getting a few little yet important jobs done on the car.

Do you need small bushes turned up on the lathe or milling machine, brackets, spaces, wheel spaces etc? Contact Gary at Jake Frisch Motorsport to see what he can do for you.

Gary machined all the new shock mount pins in Richard’s #3 Chevrolet Lumina when Richard went from Bilstein shocks to Penske shocks to space them out as the tops were larger on the Penske’s.

Gary machined up an oil pump primer tool using an old oil pump gear, keyed it so can swap the gear out when worn and use a new one.

Gary also slotted the #3 Chevrolet Lumina rear rotors and re-slotted the #8 Chevrolet Monte Carlo’s front rotors, so there is a variety of jobs that Gary can do and once the #4 Pontiac is complete, that variety will get larger.

Borrowed Andrew Bear’s car again.

As written about earlier this week, we ran the Assetto Mods – Car and Track Database version of Calder Park through its paces this week and it was a very nice effort of simulating the look and feel of the three tracks especially if you love that classic Calder Park look.

Most Wanted

Take a look at the left 3/4 window hatch on this Oldsmobile, it is the only Oldsmobile that Ian Thomas had that had this hatch, the question is where did the Olds come from? this car was used in one ARCA race in 1992 before being used for the 1992/93 Australian season.

Opinion is split, some say Doug Taylor built it, and some say it came from TriStar Motorsports, what we know for sure is that the car was sold by Ian Thomas to John Faulkner and it ran with John, Eddie Abelnica and Paul Stocker until the end of the 2001 V8 Stock Car season when it was driven by Doug Moss (Paul Stocker as owner).

Hopefully some 1992 publication will be found, and it will spill the beans on the history and settle the debate once and for all.

We are looking for anybody who may know where the above ex-Brad Jones, ex-Kim Jane ride car Lumina that has Oldsmobile parts (like the rear bumper) came from before Brad Jones owned it, we have two different opinions, one is that it came from George Elliot (he isn’t sure about that) and the other is it came from Walter Giles (the Giles family doesn’t believe that).

It has been suggested that it is Walter Giles Buick LeSabre, we haven’t found anything to confirm or refute that, a report has been found that Walter’s original chassis went to Mark Harrison but we’re still looking into it.

The right side 3/4 window of the car is considered key; it is a Lumina 3/4 window; it is considered odd because it is surrounded by Oldsmobile parts like the rear bumper.

This covered up piece was from the BJR era and earlier era.

Pink was found underneath in the surviving layers of paint pointing its history towards Ron Goodman’s car for the Gold Coast in 1992 and Walter Giles who also had pink cars.

The #05 Ron Goodman Oldsmobile was an ex-George Elliot Oldsmobile as stated in the Round 4 1991/92 programme, it was originally claimed to be a car purchased from George, but a later publication said it was ‘lent’ (leased) to Ron by George, and it was given back to George.

As you can see, the right side of this Oldsmobile has a Lumina 3/4 window.

It appears that the Ron Goodman #05 also has a Lumina 3/4 window on its left side too making it a very odd-looking Oldsmobile.

It would be interesting to know why the Oldsmobile was selected instead of a Lumina, was it originally all Lumina? or was it all Oldsmobile and it was in the middle of a reskin?

Assuming it is the Elliot car, either George’s team fully changed the Goodman Oldsmobile into a Lumina after it was given back, or they just replaced the front to a Chevrolet Lumina after the Olds one took a beating on the Gold Coast, and it then served as a ride car with an Olds rear bumper.

Hopefully somebody who worked on George’s team in 1992 recalls a car going to Ron Goodman and then getting it back after the Gold Coast and knowing where it went next.

Somebody out there has to know for sure, Brad Jones getting a ride car had to be a pretty big deal as he only had ‘Elroy’ on hand early on, plus a ride car is a nice way to get more Stock Car laps in too.

That’s it for this week, another great week in Australian Stock Car racing.

See you next week.
