There are 22 days to go until Round 4 takes place at One Raceway, the action takes place on both Saturday and Sunday so don’t miss out on all the action.

Entries close on August 13th at 10am and can be made here, there is plenty of time to think about joining in all the action on the track.

We have our first entry in for the round, and it is the #26 Holden Commodore of Brad Lighton, look at that #26, it is a work of art and like the other vehicles in SCA, it is poetry in motion on the track.

Those who like to regularly check out Calder Park or live around there would have noticed a bridge being built on Calder Park Drive as part of rail crossing removals in Victoria, it is now officially opened and Richard White and Lukas Gates got to open it by driving the #3 Chevrolet Lumina and the #22 Holden Commodore over it which is something you don’t hear about happening every day.

You can read all about the bridge opening on the Victoria’s Big Build website and see a nice picture of the #3 about to take the chequered flag too.

Last weekend was a busy one for the #4 Pontiac team over at Jake Frisch Motorsport, Jake reported the following last Sunday.

Really productive day today, oil box cut out just a little bit to dress up next time we catch up, boot bar work sanded back and etch primed. Now just to finalise the fab work inside the cockpit and then we can sand it back and etch that was well’

Over in the #46 Oldsmobile team, the seat has been fitted, and the radiator has been mounted as the car continues to take shape, work also continues on writing down the history of the restoration, it is going to be a big read when everything is done but you’ll have over a dozen pictures to look at.

Meanwhile at Richard White Racing, the panel damage that the #8 Monte Carlo got at The Bend has been repaired, painted and is now ready for stickers.

The #3 Chevrolet Lumina has a new clutch and has had a fresh Jerico gearbox installed.

The #4 Chevrolet Silverado which will be driven by Jeremy Gunson continues to go from the old FDNY Racing/Kenny Wallace Dirt Racing Experience look to the #4 Monster Energy Ricky Carmichael look as you can see in the two above pictures in the slideshow.

Eddie’s Olds on Assetto Corsa?

While waiting for all the news to come through, time continues to be spent on Assetto Corsa this time in the #68 Oldsmobile that may also be Eddie Ivermee’s #46 Oldsmobile.

While my keyboard driving proves that I am a better blogger than a driver, I did manage to cut my time down from 2:28 to 2:24 last time around, times should drop further once adjustments are made to the car as it has a tendency to slide all over the place through corners.

Most Wanted

Take a look at the left 3/4 window hatch on this Oldsmobile, it is the only Oldsmobile that Ian Thomas had that had this hatch, the question is where did the Olds come from? this car was used in one ARCA race in 1992 before being used for the 1992/93 Australian season.

Opinion is split, some say Doug Taylor built it, and some say it came from TriStar Motorsports, what we know for sure is that the car was sold by Ian Thomas to John Faulkner and it ran with John, Eddie Abelnica and Paul Stocker until the end of the 2001 V8 Stock Car season when it was driven by Doug Moss (Paul Stocker as owner).

Hopefully some 1992 publication will be found, and it will spill the beans on the history and settle the debate once and for all.

We are looking for anybody who may know where the above ex-Brad Jones, ex-Kim Jane ride car Lumina that has Oldsmobile parts (like the rear bumper) came from before Brad Jones owned it, we have two different opinions, one is that it came from George Elliot (he isn’t sure about that) and the other is it came from Walter Giles (the Giles family doesn’t believe that).

It has been suggested that it is Walter Giles Buick LeSabre, we haven’t found anything to confirm or refute that, a report has been found that Walter’s original chassis went to Mark Harrison but we’re still looking into it.

The right side 3/4 window of the car is considered key; it is a Lumina 3/4 window; it is considered odd because it is surrounded by Oldsmobile parts like the rear bumper.

This covered up piece was from the BJR era and earlier era.

Pink was found underneath in the surviving layers of paint pointing its history towards Ron Goodman’s car for the Gold Coast in 1992 and Walter Giles who also had pink cars.

The #05 Ron Goodman Oldsmobile was an ex-George Elliot Oldsmobile as stated in the Round 4 1991/92 programme, it was originally claimed to be a car purchased from George, but a later publication said it was ‘lent’ (leased) to Ron by George, and it was given back to George.

As you can see, the right side of this Oldsmobile has a Lumina 3/4 window.

It appears that the Ron Goodman #05 also has a Lumina 3/4 window on its left side too making it a very odd-looking Oldsmobile.

It would be interesting to know why the Oldsmobile was selected instead of a Lumina, was it originally all Lumina? or was it all Oldsmobile and it was in the middle of a reskin?

Assuming it is the Elliot car, either George’s team fully changed the Goodman Oldsmobile into a Lumina after it was given back, or they just replaced the front to a Chevrolet Lumina after the Olds one took a beating on the Gold Coast, and it then served as a ride car with an Olds rear bumper.

Hopefully somebody who worked on George’s team in 1992 recalls a car going to Ron Goodman and then getting it back after the Gold Coast and knowing where it went next.

Somebody out there has to know for sure, Brad Jones getting a ride car had to be a pretty big deal as he only had ‘Elroy’ on hand early on, plus a ride car is a nice way to get more Stock Car laps in too.

That’s it for this week, another great week in Australian Stock Car racing.

See you next week.
