When the Australian Stock Car Championship field takes the green flag at Sydney Motorsport Park on Sunday, we’ll be in the middle of the 2025 season.

It is one day of racing at SMP, no points are on offer and the short program may have deterred some from attending but fantastic for those nearby owners who want to use their vehicles.

Our five entrants have a mammoth task ahead of them, they are up against over 30 Super TT competitors, it is going to be super crowded on the track.

The layout is the Gardner GP circuit, that’s 3.93km of track, there are 18 turns, and one interesting feature is that the main straight is 15m wide but it narrows down to 12 metres.

Brett Mitchell was our first entry in the #8 Chevrolet Silverado, it is good to see the #8 back, the #8 last appeared at One Raceway last season.

Robert Marchese is in the #84 Chevrolet Silverado, the chances of the #84 getting through the weekend without a spin or being hit are quite high as Robert is a dependable driver on the track, consistency always keeps him in the title hunt season after season.

Mick Heppleston is in the #304 Chevrolet Silverado; Mick has seen regular Stock Cars Australia action since switching from the Ford Thunderbird to the Chevrolet Silverado though his 2025 was slightly delayed while waiting for his gearbox.

Joining Stock Cars Australia is Phil Muffet in the #41 Ford Thunderbird; Phil recently purchased the #41 from Mick Heppleston and tested the Thunderbird at Winton last Sunday recording good times, further track time will see him be a contender on the Classic Cup leaderboard.

Barry Kelleher is in the field in the #31 Ford Mustang, both Barry and Brett competed in Super TT races held at SMP in June and finished second and third in Race 3.

The #31 was previously driven by Carey McMahon and was sponsored by Skye Sands, the company owned by Rusty French.

Weather

The weather should be around 18 degrees with sunny conditions and winds around 14km/h, perfect for racing.

It is going to be an interesting round of racing, we’ll see how the 41 performs under new ownership, we’ll see Rob and Mick racing nice and steadily, Brett Mitchell is back in action and based on results we should see Brett and Barry stick close together.
