There are just two days to go before Round 3 action takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park.

It is going to be a big field of Super TT and Stock Cars Australia vehicles on the track; spectators are going to have a busy weekend right across the day with plenty of vehicles out there.

Brett Mitchell, Robert Marchese, Mick Heppleston and Barry Kelleher are entered for the event.

The 41 being worked on to make it to SMP (Phil Muffet)

One driver who could make his debut at SMP on Sunday is Phil Muffet, he had given the #41 Ford Thunderbird a good run last Sunday at Winton, some work is required on the car but the car is on the entry list and should everything be running smoothly, it will be at SMP.

Meanwhile at Calder Park Raceway, Lukas Gates was today cutting laps on the track as he gears up for a return to the Australian Stock Car Championship, it has been a frustrating season for the #22 team as mechanical issues stopped them from running at Winton and The Bend, but now all looks good for One Raceway in August.

Calder Park runs ‘Test & Tune’ days regularly which is really helpful for teams wanting to get some kilometres in between rounds and there are five days between now and the season finale on November 8-9 (November 7 is VMRC Practice Day which is for SCA etc.)

The #14 AUSCAR has had its windows fitted as it gets closer to making its Australian Stock Car Championship debut, there is a lot of interest in the Botheras team with almost 550 members in its Facebook group.

Here is a look at the Monster Energy decal on the #4 Chevrolet Silverado of Jeremy Gunson, another piece of the puzzle is put into place.

The wavy American stripes are visible on the truck

Further work on the Silverado has revealed more about the former FDNY Racing truck, the pattern of the paintwork matches what the team used at Martinsville in 2007, they attempted to make the race with Shane Sieg but were unsuccessful.

What is significant about the look is that it shown that the team had the truck far earlier than originally believed.

This picture was seen on X (Jared Haas)

There may be another development in the story; while writing this up today, a photo was spotted with a truck having with the exact same livery, but the number is #39. not #28, Jeremy had discovered the outline of a 3 on his truck and so it is likely they are the same truck but why the #39?

We found the tweet (or is it ‘the X’?) and it revealed the 39 was from 2005, two years before the 28 was photographed at Martinsville.

Now we got to find out who S&W Motorsports are and then we will close the gap on 2001.

Most Wanted

Take a look at the left 3/4 window hatch on this Oldsmobile, it is the only Oldsmobile that Ian Thomas had that had this hatch, the question is where did the Olds come from? this car was used in one ARCA race in 1992 before being used for the 1992/93 Australian season.

Opinion is split, some say Doug Taylor built it, and some say it came from TriStar Motorsports, what we know for sure is that the car was brought by John Faulkner and ran with John, Eddie Abelnica and Paul Stocker until the end of the 2001 V8 Stock Car season driven by Doug Moss, but the car was under the ownership of Paul Stocker.

Hopefully some 1992 publication will be found, and it will spill the beans on the history and settle the debate once and for all.

We are looking for anybody who may know where the above ex-Brad Jones, ex-Kim Jane ride car Lumina that has Oldsmobile parts (like the rear bumper) came from before Brad Jones owned it, we have two different opinions, one is that it came from George Elliot (he isn’t sure about that) and the other is it came from Walter Giles (the Giles family doesn’t believe that).

It has been suggested that it is Walter Giles Buick LeSabre, we haven’t found anything to confirm or refute that, a report has been found that Walter’s original chassis went to Mark Harrison but we’re still looking into it.

The right side 3/4 window of the car is considered key; it is a Lumina 3/4 window; it is considered odd because it is surrounded by Oldsmobile parts like the rear bumper.

This covered up piece was from the BJR era and earlier era.

Pink was found underneath in the surviving layers of paint pointing its history towards Ron Goodman’s car for the Gold Coast in 1992 and Walter Giles who also had pink cars.

The #05 Ron Goodman Oldsmobile was an ex-George Elliot Oldsmobile as stated in the Round 4 1991/92 programme, it was originally claimed to be a car purchased from George, but a later publication said it was ‘lent’ (leased) to Ron by George, and it was given back to George.

As you can see, the right side of this Oldsmobile has a Lumina 3/4 window.

It appears that the Ron Goodman #05 also has a Lumina 3/4 window on its left side too making it a very odd-looking Oldsmobile.

It would be interesting to know why the Oldsmobile was selected instead of a Lumina, was it originally all Lumina? or was it all Oldsmobile and it was in the middle of a reskin?

Assuming it is the Elliot car, either George’s team fully changed the Goodman Oldsmobile into a Lumina after it was given back, or they just replaced the front to a Chevrolet Lumina after the Olds one took a beating on the Gold Coast, and it then served as a ride car with an Olds rear bumper.

Hopefully somebody who worked on George’s team in 1992 recalls a car going to Ron Goodman and getting it back after the Gold Coast and knowing where it went next.

Somebody out there has to know for sure, Brad Jones getting a ride car had to be a pretty big deal as he only had ‘Elroy’ on hand early on, plus a ride car is a nice way to get more Stock Car laps in too.

That’s it for this week, another great week in Australian Stock Car racing.

See you next week.
