There are 9 days to go until Round 3 takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Brett Mitchell is entered in the #8 OzTruck and is taking on a variety of vehicles from the Ford Mustang to the Toyota Starlet, the one day of racing may put off some from entering but those from around Sydney may take the opportunity to get some kilometres in before Round 4 arrives at One Raceway on August 16 and 17.
Entries close on the 17th so if you’re thinking about it, check out the page.

Last weekend’s racing at Chicago started great for Jack Perkins in the #19 Toyota Supra, he qualified fifth and was hanging around that position on Lap 5 when he got tagged going through Turn 6 and ended up with a shortened Supra, the damage put him out of contention, but he did complete the race which was valuable experience for him for Portland which is your standard race circuit and if somebody tags you, you’re less likely to find a wall.

Next up was Will Brown in the Cup race, his race ended after two completed laps when a crash in front of him left the No. 13 Chevrolet driver with nowhere to go and he left Chicago with a 39th place finish.
It looks like road racing is on the nose with some NASCAR drivers and personalities letting their feelings known, it seems that once SVG started banking wins from his low championship position, the fun went out of racing on circuits.
Back on home soil and over at Jake Frisch Motorsport, the #4 Pontiac team is making progress on the getting the car built, the team has faced plenty of challenges, but they are overcoming them one by one, here is the latest from Jake
‘Engine bay is all now sanded back and in etch primer, there was some imperfections on the side from body filler which we have gouged out to rectify‘
‘Next step will be finishing the inside off e.g. moving battery box to right hand side, finalising any fab work and then sand back and prime then move to the boot, followed by finalising underneath and then will be looking at getting some colour on it‘
Over at Botheras Racing Headquarters, we all got to take a look at how the #14 Holden Commodore is taking shape, this was uploaded last Saturday, and it does look great with that Stock Cars Australia banner on the windscreen.
New from MotorsportArchives.com is the May action from Daylesford Speedway and you’ll see the Botheras Racing team in action in the video, it is the second car that you see in the previous video.

The latest on the #4 Silverado owned by Jeremy Gunson is good news, more parts for the Silverado have arrived as the engine continues to take shape, the carbie is on back order so it will be a little bit of time before it arrives.
Jeremy reports that there is the clutch and the MSD 6014 ignition to go and then the driveline is finished.
Earlier this year, the #9 Ford Fusion that was driven to victory at Watkins Glen in 2011 by Marcos Ambrose was at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival where it went around the circuit with some familiar cars like Richard White Racing’s #3 Lumina and #8 Monte Carlo, Josh Dale’s #3 Silverado (one of two in WA), the #2 Pontiac Monaro and more.
Blend Line TV released a video of the #9 at Adelaide and it features Barry Graham, former Australian NASCAR champion and one who helped make NASTRAK stick in America.
NASCAR released a four-minute video on Dick Johnson’s 1989 US debut at Sonoma, a debut made famous by ESPN airing his thoughts on the air, his famous two words before climbing the tyre wall never ceases to be funny.

There was an interesting development in the case of Eddie’s Oldsmobile, Wayne Giles says that it came from TriStar Motorsports, that is also what John Faulkner told Eddie, we do have a conflict of information as others say Doug Taylor built it new for Ian, so we got to look for something written down to settle it but where and how, we have no idea.
We acquired another three Auto Action magazine editions from 1993 and one from 1994, unfortunately none of them contained anything we were hoping for, the Australian Touring Car Championship and Formula 1 dominated the pages.
The number of modder made Australian cars for the PC game Assetto Corsa is impressive, Assetto Mods – Car and Track Database has a wide range of Holden and Ford models and so I used them on the Thunderdome built by Brodies Assetto Mods, I’d even found some Olds elsewhere to use on the track, it former is the closest thing to AUSCAR.
The BAM Thunderdome is not actually built for proper Stock Car racing, the created complex is built for drifting, so you got to be careful to not damage any tie rods or tyres otherwise you’re screwed as there are no pits, the AI goes a little spin happy but otherwise it is great fun.
Hopefully somebody has a go at releasing some AUSCARs, now that will be fun.
Most Wanted

We are looking for anybody who may know where the above ex-Brad Jones, ex-Kim Jane ride car Lumina that has Oldsmobile parts (like the rear bumper) came from before Brad Jones owned it, we have two different opinions, one is that it came from George Elliot (he isn’t sure about that) and the other is it came from Walter Giles (the Giles family doesn’t believe that).
It has been suggested that it is Walter Giles Buick LeSabre, we haven’t found anything to confirm or refute that, a report has been found that Walter’s original chassis went to Mark Harrison but we’re still looking into it.

The right side 3/4 window of the car is considered key; it is a Lumina 3/4 window; it is considered odd because it is surrounded by Oldsmobile parts like the rear bumper.

Pink was found underneath in the surviving layers of paint pointing its history towards Ron Goodman’s car for the Gold Coast in 1992 and Walter Giles who also had pink cars.

The #05 Ron Goodman Oldsmobile was an ex-George Elliot Oldsmobile as stated in the Round 4 1991/92 programme, it was originally claimed to be a car purchased from George, but a later publication said it was ‘lent’ (leased) to Ron by George, and it was given back to George.
As you can see, the right side of this Oldsmobile has a Lumina 3/4 window.

It appears that the Ron Goodman #05 also has a Lumina 3/4 window on its left side too making it a very odd-looking Oldsmobile.
It would be interesting to know why the Oldsmobile was selected instead of a Lumina, was it originally all Lumina? or was it all Oldsmobile and it was in the middle of a reskin?
Assuming it is the Elliot car, either George’s team fully changed the Goodman Oldsmobile into a Lumina after it was given back, or they just replaced the front to a Chevrolet Lumina after the Olds one took a beating on the Gold Coast, and it then served as a ride car with an Olds rear bumper.
Hopefully somebody who worked on George’s team in 1992 recalls a car going to Ron Goodman and getting it back after the Gold Coast and knowing where it went next.
Somebody out there has to know for sure, Brad Jones getting a ride car had to be a pretty big deal as he only had ‘Elroy’ on hand early on, plus a ride car is a nice way to get more Stock Car laps in too.
That’s it for this week, another great week in Australian Stock Car racing.
See you next week.
