There are 30 days to go until Round 3 action takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park and we have some good news, entries open on June 23 at 10am and close on July 17 at 10am, SCA will be with Super TT so don’t worry that SCA isn’t there, they will be there.

Brett Mitchell was part of the Super TT action last week at SMP and ended up with a sixth, a fourth and a third-place finish from the races in the #8 OzTruck.

Over in the USA, Cam Waters is going to be in a Truck again when they race at Lime Rock Park on June 29 so that is something to look forward to.

As noted last week, we acquired a programme for Round 1 of the 2001 V8 Stock Cars season, we received it this week and there was a bit of useful information in there.

2000 Gold Coast Indy (Paul Cross)

There was one photo in there that was attention grabbing and it was the one above, this one was taken on the Gold Coast, the third car in line belonged to Martin Borrows, his last name was regularly misspelled as Barrows and Burrows in publications.

The #11 Thunderbird is a familiar car to regular readers as it was the #21 first with Morgan Shepherd in Australia then it was the #25 and then it was the #11 and it is now back to the #25.

AUSCAR #31 continues to upload shots of the car in action at the Thunderdome, above is today’s upload, a fantastic photo of the #31 surrounded by some of the greatest cars and drivers in AUSCAR history.

Work continues on getting the car into racing shape, it is going to take some time, but it is going in the right direction which is good news.

Some more photos of the #31 Holden Commodore have been handed off to Jamie Jordan, the photos like the one above were part of the Greg Stanfield collection.

Car Building/Restoration News

Last week we reported on the progress of Jeremy Gunson’s #4 Silverado, we are pleased to further report that the truck’s history was traced back to FDNY Racing.

FDNY Racing races the #28 a couple of times a year and Jeremy was able to match features of the #28 from circa 2012 to his truck, this included the use of the red, white and blue paint in all the right places.

It is hoped that Jeremy gets to learn more about the truck from those who worked on it, we will let you know if anything happens on that front.

Over in the #46 Oldsmobile camp, the current stage of the build calls for the rebuilding of the diff and the mounting of the radiator.

One of the shocks still has the markings ‘Dome 6/8’ on it, it is interesting what these cars have in them, just wish it had ‘made by xyz’ on it, would have made life so much easier for us.

The formerly road travelling Buick Riveria has been harvested of all its good bits, eventually all those bits will form a Buick Regal to go on the chassis that lived as the bones of the #47 Buick Regal and spent time as being wrapped in a Pontiac body as the #5 and the #86.

Most Wanted

We are looking for anybody who may know where this ex-Brad Jones, ex-Kim Jane ride car Lumina that has Oldsmobile parts (like the rear bumper) came from before Brad Jones owned it, we have two different opinions, one is that it came from George Elliot (he isn’t sure about that) and the other is it came from Walter Giles (the Giles family doesn’t believe that).

The right side 3/4 window is considered key; it is a Lumina 3/4 window; it is considered odd because it is surrounded by Oldsmobile parts.

Pink was found underneath in the surviving layers of paint pointing its history towards Ron Goodman’s car for the Gold Coast in 1992 and Walter Giles.

The #05 Ron Goodman Oldsmobile was an ex-George Elliot Oldsmobile as stated in the Round 4 1991/92 programme, it was originally claimed to be a car purchased from George, but a later publication said it was ‘lent’ (leased) to Ron by George, and it was given back to George.

As you can see, the right side of this Oldsmobile has a Lumina 3/4 window.

It appears that the Ron Goodman #05 also has a Lumina 3/4 window on its left side too making it a very odd-looking Oldsmobile.

Either George’s team fully changed the Goodman Oldsmobile into a Lumina after it was given back, or they left it as is by replacing the front to Chevrolet after the Olds one took a beating on the Gold Coast, and it served as a ride car.

Hopefully somebody who worked on George’s team in 1992 recalls a car going to Ron Goodman likely from the NASTRAK collection and being returned.

Somebody out there has to know for sure, Brad Jones getting a ride car had to be a pretty big deal as he only had ‘Elroy’ on hand early on, plus a ride car is a nice way to get more Stock Car laps in too.

We’re still looking for anybody who has a written account on where Ian Thomas got his 1992/93 Oldsmobile from (see above), opinion is split between Doug Taylor building it and Doug Taylor reconditioning it meaning it came from somebody else.

The key is the unique left window, it has a hatch on it, bigger than the ones that Hagan and Moroso had and similar to Rahmoc Enterprises though their six points were all on the sides, none are in the middle.

That’s it for this week, another interesting week in the Australian Stock Car world, never a dull moment, just the way we all like it to be.

See you next week.
