There are 37 days to go until Round 3 takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park, there is still no change on the MRA website for entry information etc.

It shouldn’t be too long before we have news as this weekend has MRA action so once it is finished, the July 20 event should be up pretty quickly as it is next in line.

Brett Mitchell will be racing his #8 OzTruck this weekend in the SuperTT races that will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park, the races are part of Round 4 of the MRA State Championship.

We have acquired a programme from Round 1 of the 2001 Power Tour that included Stock Cars, Terry Wyhoon was entered in the #15 Ford Thunderbird sponsored by Wanless Waste Corp., Peter Holmes was entered in the #32 Holden Calibra and Gene Cook was entered in the #41 Ford Thunderbird.

Issues with CAMS resulted in the round being an exhibition and several entrants ended up staying home including the three mentioned above.

AUSCAR #31 has been receiving photos from motorsport photographer Peter Weaver and the first photo shared is from 1992 and shows the #31 with red numbering and a yellow and red paint scheme.

Car Building/Restoration News

What does a road driven Buick Riveria recently purchased by Eddie Ivermee have to do with Stock Cars? The answer is that after some modifications, the car becomes a Buick Regal.

Take the #86 chassis that Eddie owns and merge it with Buick body and eventually after lots of work he’ll have himself a Buick Regal stock car just like the #86 was when the car was shipped to Australia as the #47 Buick that Ron Bouchard drove in Winston Cup competition.

This project of Eddie’s will be a while away; he still has the #46 Oldsmobile on his plate plus other activities.

Jeremy Gunson has made great strides into transforming his ex-Kenny Wallace Dirt Racing Experience Truck into the #4 Monster Energy Silverado, quite some history has been left on the truck which may help solve its mysterious history that has been a little frustrating to uncover.

It was built in 2001, the body was originally a Dodge, paperwork indicates it was for Genuine Motorsport(s) and we believe it may have ended up in Texas and other places before ending up at KWDRE.

As you can see the Monster Energy era is coming up fast for the Truck, those Stock Car fans in WA are in for a treat when it is all done and that truck thunders down a track.

Most Wanted

We are looking for anybody who may know where this ex-Brad Jones, ex-Kim Jane ride car Lumina that has Oldsmobile parts (like the rear) came from before Brad Jones owned it, we have two different opinions, one is that it came from George Elliot (he isn’t sure about that) and the other is it came from Walter Giles (the Giles family doesn’t believe that).

The right side 3/4 window is considered key; it is a Lumina 3/4 window which is quite odd for a car with Oldsmobile parts like the rear bumper.

The #05 Ron Goodman Oldsmobile was an ex-George Elliot Oldsmobile as stated in the Round 4 1991/92 programme, it was originally claimed to be a car purchased from George, but a later publication said it was ‘lent’ (leased) to Ron by George and it was given back to George.

It appears that the Ron Goodman #05 has a Lumina 3/4 window on its right side as well as the left side, we wonder if the rear bumper was also Olds and not Chevrolet.

Either George’s team fully changed the Goodman Oldsmobile into a Lumina after it was given back, or they left it as is by replacing the front bumper to Chevrolet after the Olds one took a beating on the Gold Coast, and it served as a ride car.

Somebody out there has to know for sure, Brad Jones getting a ride car had to be a pretty big deal as he only had ‘Elroy’ on hand early on, plus a ride car is a nice way to get more Stock Car laps in too.

We’re still looking for anybody who has a written account on where Ian Thomas got his 1992/93 Oldsmobile from, opinion is split between Doug Taylor building it and Doug Taylor reconditioning it meaning it came from somebody else.

There’s a chance that Auto Action’s report of Round 1 of the 1992/93 season may describe the origin of the car as reporters occasionally mentioned where race cars came from for example the Round 4 report tells how Kim Jane had Terri Sawyer’s Pontiac.

That’s it for this week, another interesting week in the Australian Stock Car world, never a dull moment, just the way we all like it to be.

See you next week.
