There are 51 days to go until Round 3 action takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park on July 20, it will be a while before we get entry details, but the round will be on the 3.93km GP circuit.

Last week we reported that the #41 Ford Thunderbird was up for sale, we happily report that the car was sold, and it was done quite quickly, and the best news is that we will be seeing the car in action again soon.

There are still some nice vehicles for sale if you are interested into getting into racing with Stock Cars Australia from a Truck to a HQ, the options are there for you.

Big news out of Jake Frisch Motorsport, the first proper sit in the car was conducted with the seat mounted and the pedal box and column was dummy fitted in the #4 Pontiac and as you can see Jake is very happy.

Jake thanks Luke Toffolon and Brad Burgess for their continued hard work on the car.

Jake reports that they’ll ‘Hopefully smash out some more work on it next weekend or so‘ and you’ll read all about every milestone they reach here at ASCN.

Robert Marchese is driving in Replica Tourers this weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park, he is driving the #555 VY Commodore, former OzTruck driver Stephen Chilby is also at SMP driving in the Australian SuperTT Championship, his ride is a BMW E36.

Here’s some history news, Eddie Ivermee’s #86 Pontiac Aero was previously the #5 Pontiac of Geoff Munday, this small fact was in a 1993 story on Trevor Oliver, it is always nice expanding the history of a car.

It is a reminder to always read everything closely; the answers could be in two lines buried in a long paragraph.

The #1 Pontiac as seen in Mission: Impossible

This week has been spent trying to find as many details on the #1 Pontiac that Jim Richards and Terri Sawyer had driven as possible, Phil Muffet discovered that paint from both the Richards and Sawyer eras was still on the car, Shayne Hunter’s photo of the Sawyer era Pontiac was perfect.

The above picture will get attention as the car is facing the wrong way but, in the scene, the car was going the right way then turned off before Turn 1, went down the pits the wrong way, car got serviced while the driver is out of the car, leaves the pits the wrong way then is seen driving by start/finish the right way.

Closest look at the #27 from Round 4 of the 1992/93 season.

A re-read of the Round 4 1992/93 race report in Auto Action revealed that Kim Jane’s #27 Pontiac for that round was a rear steer ex-Terri Sawyer Pontiac, was this #27 previously the #1 that Jim Richards and Terri Sawyer used? We’re still trying to find that out.

The Calder Park Thunderdome page has the 5-lap race on its page which helped us find a colour version of the car in action as the AA article photo was in black & white.

If a JSA built Pontiac came to Kim Jane’s team from Bob Jane, then by all probability it is the car, never a dull moment in this caper.

Most Wanted

We are looking for anybody who may know where this ex-Brad Jones, ex-Kim Jane Lumina with Oldsmobile parts (like the rear) came from before Brad Jones owned it, we have two different opinions, one is that it came from George Elliot (he isn’t sure about that) and the other is it came from Walter Giles (the Giles family doesn’t believe that).

The right side 3/4 window is considered key, it looks very similar to the right 3/4 window of the Ron Goodman #05 Oldsmobile at the Gold Coast in 1992 as it doesn’t look very Oldsmobile like.

Unfortunately, we have not found a similar but clear photo of the #05 Oldsmobile’s right side to accurately compare the two to rule it in or rule it out, this car was the ex-George Elliot Oldsmobile as stated in the Round 4 1991/92 programme.

Somebody out there has to know for sure, Brad Jones getting a ride car had to be a pretty big deal as he only had ‘Elroy’ on hand early on, plus a ride car is a nice way to get more Stock Car laps in too.

We’re still looking for anybody who has a written account on where Ian Thomas got his 1992/93 Oldsmobile from, opinion is split between Doug Taylor building it and Doug Taylor reconditioning it meaning it came from somebody else.

There’s a chance that Auto Action’s report of Round 1 of the 1992/93 season may describe the origin of the car as reporters occasionally mentioned where race cars came from for example the Round 4 report tells how Kim Jane had Terri Sawyer’s Pontiac.

Last week’s edition was our 300th entry and our Facebook page also recorded its 300th follow.

We’ve passed the halfway mark to matching 2024’s record, if things keep going the way it is, we will set a new record and move the bar higher by some distance.

See you next week.
