There are 58 days to go until Round 3 action takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park, it will be a while before we get entry details, but the round will be on the 3.93km GP circuit.

Stock Cars Australia (and other series) racer Jack Perkins is off to America later this year to do some racing with Joe Gibbs Racing, he’ll be in the #19 Toyota Supra at Portland International Raceway in August this year, the car will be primarily sponsored by Shaw and Partners Financial Services.

They are not the only company backing the effort with Southern Cross Truck Rentals, TLC Auto Centre, ARB Penrith, and Muscle Car Warehouse all helping to make it happen, it really does take a village or in our case many businesses to make a racing goal be accomplished.

Richard White was onto it early and suggested it to Scott Pye and Elliot Barbour who of course co-host Apex Hunters United and they aired the suspicion and are now considered Simpsons like geniuses.

It was very nice of Supercars and V8 Sleuth to mention Jack’s debut with Stock Cars Australia; we really do hope that Jack comes back in November to race at Calder Park Raceway.

Perhaps Scott Nind has a future side business calling, running his cars between rounds for those who want a crack at the Xfinity series but need to get some practice in without the expense of going overseas to do it, spend it locally instead.

The downside to the news is that there’s a couple of nasty comments saying that Jack is a hopeless driver and other charming descriptions, we’ve become a nasty society eager to sink the boots into people, it is unbelievable calling a guy who has won a Supercars race and nine Super2 races hopeless, there’s little doubt he can drive compared to those trying to get themselves excited by making such comments.

It was a sad week as news came through that John Sidney had died, his team and his engines dominated the Stock Cars throughout most of the 1990s.

Championships with Max Dumesny and Barry Graham were followed up by four consecutive championships to Kim Jane and plenty of drivers had engines brought from or serviced by John Sidney and his team.

Even Brad Jones got to sample the might of a JSR Chevrolet Monte Carlo when he stood in for Rodney Jane in 1998/99.

Today the #27 JSR Chevrolet Monte Carlo is still in action with Zac O’Hara owning and running the car in Stock Cars Australia ensuring that people will see the car for many years to come.

Future SCA AUSCAR runners the Botheras family were recorded racing at Daylesford Speedway by Roy Ellery, Stock Cars Australia’s film man in one of those great coincidences, Roy usually records the racing action at Daylesford and everything fell into place.

American legend Harry Gant is going to be in the NASCAR Hall of Fame and V8 Sleuth reported on Harry’s race at the Thunderdome when he was part of Robin Best’s team.

For Sale/Sold

(Edited to mark as sold) Recently sold was ‘Charlie’ the #41 Ford Thunderdome that was used by Chad Little, Charlie O’Brien and Gene Cook.

It was a race winner for both Charlie O’Brien and Gene Cook; the car’s history up to 1993 was greatly detailed in the SBS broadcast of ‘Thunder at the Creek’.

It was later used by Fastrack and then brought by Mick Heppleston who debuted the car in Stock Cars Australia in 2022.

Up for sale is the #02 Ford Falcon Sportsman, please see our ‘Vehicles For Sale‘ section for more information but as you can see in the picture it is one of those rare Sportsman vehicles that is ready to go, no restoration required.

This Truck has popped up again and a reminder that it is from New Zealand so it doesn’t have far to travel, so if it is a Truck that you’re looking for, this one could fit the bill and the owner is quite right about the price of engines, some go for $25,000 AUD or higher.

Most Wanted

We are looking for anybody who may know where this ex-Brad Jones, ex-Kim Jane Lumina with Oldsmobile parts (like the rear) came from before Brad Jones owned it, we have two different opinions, one is that it came from George Elliot (he isn’t sure about that) and the other is it came from Walter Giles (the Giles family doesn’t believe that).

The right side 3/4 window is considered key, it looks very similar to the right 3/4 window of the Ron Goodman #05 Oldsmobile at the Gold Coast in 1992 as it doesn’t look very Oldsmobile like.

Unfortunately, we have not found a similar but clear photo of the #05 Oldsmobile’s right side to accurately compare the two to rule it in or rule it out, this car was the ex-George Elliot Oldsmobile as stated in the Round 4 1991/92 programme.

Somebody out there has to know for sure, Brad Jones getting a ride car had to be a pretty big deal as he only had ‘Elroy’ on hand early on, plus a ride car is a nice way to get more Stock Car laps in too.

We’re still looking for anybody who has a written account on where Ian Thomas got his 1992/93 Oldsmobile from, opinion is split between Doug Taylor building it and Doug Taylor reconditioning it meaning it came from somebody else.

There’s a chance that Auto Action’s report of Round 1 of the 1992/93 season may describe the origin of the car as reporters occasionally mentioned where race cars came from for example the Round 4 report tells how Kim Jane had Terri Sawyer’s Pontiac.

The alternate is to hope for 1992 editions of Auto Action are put on eBay and we buy them one at a time for $15 apiece and hope that

That is all for this week, a pretty big week when you think about it and that’s just the way we like them to be.

See you next week.
