35 days to go until the season opener at Winton and now anticipation will start to build more quickly as entries are now open and ASCN is looking very much forward to announcing them as they come in.

Vic Super TT, Vic V8s, BMW E30 and Sport Compact are also on the bill at Winton.

Friday Practice is an added option followed by the action on the weekend.

Jake Frisch Motorsport had a special guest last Sunday as John Sheppard came by for a visit.

John is one of the major figures in Australian Stock Car history, several drivers would not have had cars without John and his team putting them together for the start in February 1988 and his work continued on from there.

John looked at the currently being built #6 Pontiac and told the JFM team plenty of stories, lucky people.

Over the week, I got to chat with Andrew Bear who is the owner of the #4 Oldsmobile, this car was brought off Morgan-McClure by John Stepancic who ran it as the #41.

The car is being restored to run with its #4 Morgan-McClure look, its completion will be some time from now, but we’ll be here when it is ready.

Hopefully a strong Queensland presence in the future will entice Stock Cars Australia into returning to Queensland Raceway a couple of years from now.

The #1 VT Commodore is being worked on as it gets closer to an SCA return, it is one of two VT Commodore Stock Cars that are currently in existence.

Zac reports that the #1 has a ‘quiet ‘ exhaust system built for One Raceway and the original Boom tubes are currently under repairs.

Did you know the George Elliot once had four mufflers on his Chevrolet Lumina in an attempt to comply with decibel limits in Sydney and he was still two decibels over.

Dick Johnson has been in the United States, and he met up with Ray Evernham as reported in V8 Sleuth, the two know each other from when Dick raced in Winston Cup and Ray was his crew chief, years later Ray was with Hendrick Motorsports and was paired with Jeff Gordon with championship winning results.

Ray also served as a tyre changer for Jeff Gordon in the 1995 Napa 500 after the team changed the pit stop personnel for fun as they had secured the championship.

Efforts to nail down the history of #46 Oldsmobile has taken us to ARCA, it turns out that Ian Thomas brought an ex-Team III Pontiac at an auction in May 1992, he ran it at Pocono in June 1992 and then ran an Oldsmobile at Michigan also in June 1992, the question is, is the Oldsmobile Eddie’s car and can we confirm it came from TriStar Motorsports?

So far there are no videos of the Michigan race but above is the Pocono race and that contains footage of the #14 Pontiac including a small interview with Ian, go 24:36 into the video to hear Dr. Jerry Punch talk about Ian’s Pontiac.

While we’ve been told there was only two Olds owned by TCR, it is impossible as Ian Thomas converted one into a Lumina, Denzil Mead got one and John Faulkner got one from TCR and three doesn’t go into two.

We’re still no closer to figuring out the history of the #3 Lumina, we’re looking for photos of the NASTRAK cars to see if we can see which car was it, then we may get some idea what the car was by the time it got to BJR.

ASCN is now on Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky and of course here on the web.

That’s the news for this week

See you next week.
