Fourteen days to go until the final round of the 2024 season gets underway at One Raceway.

Drivers make sure your entries are in by going to this link and enter, hopefully the page will soon start displaying entries, so we know who is going to be at the revamped circuit.

The overall title is down to the wire and while Scott Nind is in almost total domination form, he still needs to pass Robert Marchese and Danny Burgess as they are ahead of him in points.

Colin Matton’s #2 is leading SCA AUSCAR

Twenty-five points separate first and fourth positions for the SCA AUSCAR title, Colin Matton is the new championship leader ahead of Jamey Hollier, Chris Robinson, Lukas Gates, Brad Lighton and Troy Perichon.

Consistency is key in the series, one mechanical failure taking a car out for even just one race in a round can be the difference between winning a title and just missing out, so nothing is a foregone conclusion heading into One Raceway.

Spectators take note that the full weekend will cost you $40, the full range of prices are below.

Friday – Free
Saturday – $20
Sunday – $30
2 Day Pass – $40
Under 16 – Free

TA2, Formula Vee, Formula RX8, Legend Cars Australia and the Australian Drivers Championship are also on the bill for the weekend, do check them out if you haven’t already done so.

Kevin Schwantz driving the #9 AUSCAR

The ex-Kevin Schwantz driven #9 AUSCAR (yes, he did drive an AUSCAR once) is at Bathurst this week, it was also used by the Wanless brothers and then it became James Brock’s ride, and he used it to great success back when Future Tourers had a good run.

Does anybody know the story about the Lawes brothers’ cars? In particular a Pontiac that was not used, this particular car now belongs to Jake Frisch who is very interested in finding out the full story but hasn’t had any success getting through to those in the know.

Work continues on the Frisch Pontiac, there’s no question that this Pontiac will make it into competition and perhaps it will late in the 2025 season, we’ll be keeping you updated on the progress of the build as it comes to hand.

The #8 ride car, what was it beforehand?

We are still looking for anybody who absolutely knows for sure what the Brad Jones #8 ride car ‘George’ (named after George Jetson) was when George Elliot had the car.

One belief is that it is Walter Giles’ Buick LeSabre, another possibility is NASTRAK etc., another is that it was the Ron Goodman Oldsmobile that gave Tony Southwell’s car a whack twice on the Gold Coast in 1992 and it may have been the Johnny Rutherford #31 Oldsmobile raced in December 1988, but we have no definitive proof of any of those possibilities so if we can find out what the car looked like or what it used for before it went to Brad Jones, it may become a whole lot easier to trace.

Slowly but surely, editions of Motorsport News are being brought so we can search the pages and see if we can find anything interesting, one thing for certain is that somebody working for V8 Sleuth has nice carpet as one page scan shows a bit of somebody’s carpet.

For those who are looking for car histories etc. always search for things like Motorsport News as memories can fade and people can be mistaken but things written in print at the time are largely correct.

Did you know that it was reported in September 1993 that Andrew Miedecke was considering retirement? Eight years later he dominated V8 Stock Cars and was doing it again in 2002 when the Power Tour stopped after a round at Queensland Raceway and four cars raced on at Winton later that year.

In just over two weeks’ time, the season will be over, and our round countdown will be paused until the 2025 schedule comes out but fear not readers, ASCN will be published weekly no matter how busy or slow the weeks get.

See you next week.
