One week to go until the action starts at Calder Park, the nerves are building up but so is the excitement, every round is eagerly awaited especially when getting to see the action in person.

You’ll find the event schedule and garage allocation on this link, tickets can be brought online or at the gate, there’s so much to look forward to.

The entry total appears to be seventeen and the cars will be in the NASCAR garages this year instead of the AUSCAR ones, so they’ll be even easier to spot.

Any late entrants be aware that the garages are full and car port spaces are filled so bring a marquee.

With the exception of Queensland Raceway (please come back next year) entry totals have been around 16 to 18 all season long which is great news.

The long-range weather forecast for Calder Park is a bit concerning, any rain for Saturday should arrive after Race 2 is completed but Sunday is pretty much 50/50 for wet conditions.

Winds between 20 and 30km/h is currently anticipated for the weekend so using the building at Calder Park as wind shelter is a good idea.

It looks like there will be some sort of coverage, Blend Line TV has the 29th marked as premium, we’ll look into that.

Bathurst is coming up and AUSCAR #31 looked back at the time AUSCAR and what was to become Future Tourers teamed up to take on Bathurst in 1999, a race that the #31 participated in.

Now we have some Solved car mysteries and Wanted cars to look at.

Solved: Earlier this week, we were asking for information on the #05 Sportsman, that search was a quick one, Michael Barnett provided the answers within an hour, it was his car, and it started as the #40 AUSCAR, it later on went to Tony Castleman and then to Kane Fritzle and now Rob Mepham has it.

Wanted: This #05 Holden Commodore has eluded people for quite some time; we’ve been asked to ask if anybody knows where it went.

Ron Goodman did race at least up to the 1995/96 season so that is beyond his fiery crash at the Thunderdome, and the car is said to have been his only car.

Our search has generated a lot of interest but no leads, maybe today is the day that changes.

The picture collection would be much smaller without Shayne Hunter (Shayne Hunter collection)

Wanted: Information on the fate of the #83 Ford Falcon that Jerry Bowers drove, also wanted is information on all Holden Commodore and Ford Falcon Stock Cars.

Ford cars are highly sought after, we know one Neville Lance Thunderbird became a paintball prop, one car is used on the salt flats, the Wyhoon/Howe Thunderbird is what Laurence has and Mick Heppleston has the O’Brien/Cook Thunderbird, but the rest are unknown.

Wanted: The status of this car, built by Doug Taylor at Speciality Motorsports in Denver, North Carolina for Ian Thomas.

Doug raced it in Australia the first time it was raced, it was also the first race with radial tyres and the 6″ blade, Doug was the first person to run a 27 second lap. Ian Thomas sold it to Perry Schubert, he raced it a few times, then put a Monte Carlo body on it. Tony Southwell set it up for Perry and gave him his fastest ever lap time.

Tony Southwell bought it from him in 2000, he had a couple of people drive it in 2001-02, Rusty French drove it for a few races, he won a race driving it at Winton in 2001. Graham Elliot drove it once at Oran Park and Rodney Crick finished second in it in the 2001 season finale at Calder Park Raceway.

Duncan Bain who had done Formula 1 testing drove the car in the half completed 2002 season.

This car was last talked about 2012 when it was offered for sale, its last location was given as Queensland.

We’ve still trying to figure out the history of this car, there’s four possibilities given to us

1. It was the #31 Oldsmobile driven by Johnny Rutherford that George Elliot purchased.
2. It was a Walter Giles car in particular the Buick LeSabre and/or it was his show car
3. Ron Goodman used it for the Gold Coast round in 1992 and gave it back to George Elliot and that’s why it has a layer of pink.
4. NASTRAK car with no Australian history and given to Brad Jones by George Elliot

Hopefully some Brad Jones employee between 1992 and 1994 knows when this car arrived to be the #8 ride car, if we get the month the car arrived, we can narrow things down further.

Remember that the chassis and the bars are light pink covered up by light grey.

Don’t forget there is no ASCN edition next week as the Round 4 preview takes its place followed by the recap of the weekend’s action.
