While searching for anything that points us to the past identity of the #3 Lumina, there was a screenshot of the #1 Pontiac on Google and we just had to look to see what got somebody’s attention.
The screenshot tags said it came from the Mission: Impossible episode ‘Church Bells in Bogota’, for those who don’t know there were two Mission: Impossible series, this one is from 1988-89.
Naturally we had go looking through YouTube to see if there was a copy of the episode or part of it to confirm.

Sure enough 58:53 into a Mission: Impossible video after a shot of the Golden Gate Bridge is the unmistakable #1 Pontiac going through its paces at Calder Park Thunderdome before it takes a shortcut into the pits for a service, the wrong way.

The mission player about to be pulled out of a draw and next to it is a Thunderdome stickered book, would love to have one of those stickers.

Soon the #1 drives away from the pits and after the video is watched, it is seen going by, this time going the correct way which is a bit strange but that’s TV for you.
Look at how fresh the Thunderdome looks compared to today, while it has a certain appeal today, it was really nice in the 80s.
It would be interesting to know why they chose to film in Australia when they could have done the job of filming anything they needed in America.
Did they get anybody in particular to drive the #1? It will be interesting to know, and we’ll update this post accordingly if we learn anything further.
