There are 56 days to go until the racing action comes to Queensland Raceway, did you know that twenty-two years ago the V8 Stock Cars went to the track for the second and last time?

It is not yet known how many are going to come up and turn the sound up on the state of Queensland but hopefully many SCA regulars will be coming along.

ASCN had a record month of April with 1,134 site visits now that may be small for a lot of motorsport sites, but it is something big for us as it is around a fifth of the total we received last year.

If we average 500 hits a month for the rest of the year, then 2024 will be our best year yet.

This car started off as a Joe Bessey Motorsports car

This week has been spent finding out as much as we can about the history of Richard White’s #8 Monte Carlo, and we’re pleased to say that it is with absolute certainty that it was a car built for Joe Bessey Motorsports.

A written history that came with the car said it was built for SABCO and was raced by Robby Gordon in 2001 while an ad by Graham Booth said it was a Geoffery Bodine driven car and so we hunted down the build sheet for the car and Graham’s account was confirmed as it is one of the #60 Monte Carlo’s that was driven by Geoffery Bodine.

Hopefully we can find out where exactly this chassis was used as teams would have cars for particular tracks and then find out who got it between Joe Bessey and Terry Giles (the SCCA racer of this car).

Now we got that solved, we’re waiting on pictures of cars from the NASTRAK days and George Elliot’s white Oldsmobile to confirm where Richard’s #3 Lumina comes from, there are hopes that the chassis was the one Johnny Rutherford used in what appears to be his last Stock Car race.

Don’t forget Laughlin chassis owners that you can leave your chassis details here and details will be sought for them.

Those of you who are restoring a Stock Car, Truck, AUSCAR etc. do check in and let us know how you’re going, there may be somebody close by who can help you get back on track sooner rather than later.

We’ve got a couple of posts coming up, we got a ‘Did You Know?’ section under construction and we’ll have the full story on the #8 Monte Carlo for you too.

That’s it for the news this week, another fine week in the Australian Stock Car racing scene, a scene that is growing every week.

See you next week.
