17 entrants, a new record for Stock Cars Australia and it is thanks to Greg Morris letting Zac O’Hara have a drive of his #17 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that the total was one over Calder Park’s total.

Five OzTrucks, Seven cars classed as Stock Cars, One SCA AUSCAR and Four Muscle Division cars will arrive at Sydney Motorsport Park this week to kick off the 2024 season.

We welcome Daniel Stubbs, Michael Rice, Jake Frisch, Paul Hourigan, Jamey Hollier and Damian Sullivan to driving in Stock Cars Australia, the six new drivers have also set a new series record as we’ve never had so many new drivers and that includes the series debut.

We welcome back Greg Morris to the series and as mentioned earlier Greg has put Zac O’Hara in the #17 Chevrolet Monte Carlo while is bringing two vehicles along while Greg will be in the VU Commodore Ute.

Richard White will be in the #8 for the first time since Calder Park.

Richard White is a two-car ready owner for the first time after mechanical issues forced a delay at Calder Park last year, he’ll be in the #8 Monte Carlo while Jake Frisch will be in the #3 Lumina that we now affectionately call Frankenstein’s Monster as it has a Lumina front, an Oldsmobile roofline, deck lid and rear bumper plus a Pontiac window for good measure and we still don’t know where in George Elliot’s galaxy of cars the car came from.

Some of our regulars won’t be at SMP, Laurence Mckinnon, Troy Perichon, Rod Gurney and Lukas Gates won’t be there, but we hope to see them back soon, imagine when they return, it is possible that we will see twenty car fields sometime this season as there are a number of Stock Cars, SCA AUSCAR and Muscle Division cars to come just waiting for time, money and resources to get them on the grid.

Stock Cars Australia will be sharing the track with Super TT, this means over 30 vehicles will be racing, everyone will need to race smartly on Friday and Saturday and get all the cars through without incident, accidents rarely happen in SCA, and we all like to keep it that way.

The shared field adds a new factor to the finishing order, it is likely that Scott Nind has the oomph in the Mustang to keep ahead of the Super TT runners, but can the OzTrucks get around them too? Can an OzTruck put pressure on that Mustang? Will traffic help the race order be super competitive? What does Jeff Stubbs in the Dodge Challenger have for the field? so many questions.

Schedule

You will find the schedule here or on the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series FB page, but we’ve also written it down for you, all times in AEST.

Friday
Warm Up – 11:39am
Practice – 2:47pm
Qualifying – 5:08pm
Race 1 – 8:27pm

Saturday
Race 2 – 1:15pm
Race 3 – 4:09pm

Weather

Whether the weather will be wet or fine, racing should definitely occur, Friday looks good for Race 1, Saturday’s Races 2 and 3 are a 50/50 shot while Race 4 looks good, hopefully it is those little showers that hit everywhere nearby except SMP as it has in previous years.

That’s it for this preview, it is good to be here with you for another season.
