Stock Cars raced at Bathurst? They certainly did so in 1996 and 1998.
Stock Cars put on a show at Bathurst in 1996 with nine drivers willing to give running a Stock Car on the mountain a try in two four-lap races that weekend, drivers who gave it a try included Jim Richards, Brad Jones and Kim Jane.
While the racing looked good, it was all for show as it was the dreaded exhibition race.
The races may have been brief, but they entertained with John Faulkner, Brad Jones and Jim Richards all having a turn of the lead in the above race.
The racing was kicked up a notch in 1998 by having a 100km race on the weekend of the Super Tourers version of the Bathurst 1000, twenty-two drivers entered the race, and they were (please allow for publication mistakes).

The race started well as Kim Jane picked off several positions, then there was trouble approaching skyline as Todd Wanless spun out and had his day end in the gravel
Kim Jane was fourth on Lap 2 and Rodney Jane had a spin and by Lap 4, Kim was in second position with Terry Wyhoon in third.
Rodney Jane was out of the race on Lap 4 and Ken James hit the wall in his Oldsmobile (was entered in a Monte Carlo) but was able to continue.
By Lap 6, Ingall had a nine second lead over Kim Jane who was almost six seconds up on Terry Wyhoon with Matthew White fourth and Marshall Brewer in fifth.
Bob Middleton got on the grass just before the chase and Kim Jane the next lap locked up in the same spot as it was time for a pit stop.
Despite stalling the car, Kim Jane came out of the pits closer to Russell Ingall and was locking up trying to get even closer to Russell and coming out of the Elbow, he was right behind.
Unfortunately for Kim Jane, the leaders caught up to Neville Lance who lost control of his Thunderbird and almost gave the #27 a whack, Kim was forced onto the grass and lost precious time.
Kim went off again at the chase trying to get past Neville Lance, Neville went into the pits for his pit stop and Kim went past.
Marshall Brewer, Ken James and Neville Lance all pitted at the same time.
The Top 5 was unchanged on Lap 12 with Ingall leading from Jane, Wyhoon, White and Brewer.
Wyhoon went off at the chase and Matthew White went past for third in his first Stock Car race, Wyhoon resumed close behind in fourth position.
