Good Friday to you Readers,
There are 64 days to go until the Australian Stock Car Championship comes to Calder Park, the excitement is building especially as the news from Calder Park gets better every week.
Last week we had Lukas Gates, Troy Perichon and Paul Hourigan logging laps at the circuit, you could really see the differences in the complex over the last few months from the bigger sand trap to sections of repainted walls and the lines are back on the circuit.
This week the show In Pit Lane which is on C31 and posted on YouTube was all about Calder Park Raceway, you’ll find out exactly what is going on over there and you’ll see great footage of the #22 of Lukas Gates going around the track, listen to that nice, new engine livening up the local suburbs, wonder if they missed that sound?
If you watch in car footage from the track day, you may see the faded Bridgestone wall signage further down the main straight, wonder if they are the same ones from the cover photo used by In Pit Lane.
Love C31, the channel has done so many good things for people over the decades especially sport.
Will Calder Park be anywhere near its past success? Maybe, maybe not but it is in a far better position than where it was last year, the place resembled a set from Mad Max ironically the one in mind is Beyond Thunderdome and now the Thunderdome looks more respectable, the circuit is looking far more respectable.
Troy Perichon is testing the waters regarding the selling the #7 Falcon, this particular AUSCAR is one of the best going around so if you got a stack of cash and you want an AUSCAR then head on over to AUSCAR Racing and check it out.
Motorsport Fan has released some more past AUSCAR goodness, the latest videos are from 1988.
This video is interesting because of the Jim Richards controversy, Mal Rose won this race, but the result is debatable as Jim Richards believes that he won the race as he passed the #44 but that pass was deemed to be for Jim to be on the tail of the lead lap not taking the race lead.
Consider this, Tony Kavich finished fourth in this one, a position ahead of Jim Richards, had the #6 not been scored a lap down, Jim Richards would have been the 1988 AUSCAR Champion down the track.
Look at Peter Brock in the #05 Ford Falcon, he was doing so well before #05 was struck down by mechanical problems, it is a shame that he didn’t take up the sport as he could have really shaken things up same as John Bowe who was an early competitor and had success.
Check out the work of Tex Lindner in the NASCAR Australia group, Tex has been putting together cars on iRacing that allows sim racers to drive the cars that we knew and loved (or rather know and still love) and the latest one Ruben Garcia’s car, the car ended up going through walls at Riverside later on in 1988.
Thank you for taking the time to read the latest going happenings in the Australian Stock Car world.
Fast Fact: Zac O’Hara’s #27 has had two stints as the #27, the car was the #2 in between the Kim Jane and Zac O’Hara eras and it was owned by the very successful Rusty French who was also a V8 Stock Cars winner.
