There were two seasons in 1988, the 1988 AUSCAR season and the 1988/89 AUSCAR season, this 1988 season is often recorded as a championship to Jim Richards though it was actually Tony Kavich who taken home the first championship title.

According to the 1994/95 media guide, points started at 50 points for the win and dropped a point per position, there was a bonus for pole.
This remained until 1990/91 when it was changed to the NASCAR system of 175, 170, 165 etc.
