Whilst the SCA field was at Wakefield Park in late February, another OzTruck was at Queensland Raceway competing in the QR Sports & Sedans series.
Lachlan Gardner in the #1 OzTruck Tundra started on the outside of the front row in Race 4 of the five race weekend after bagging two wins and a second place.
Ironically Race 4 in Stock Cars Australia was also a thriller which appears to be a trend whenever an OzTruck is around.
Steve Hay in the #25 Commodore was hungry for a win as he got a better start and had taken the lead.
Lachlan and Steve duelled throughout the race with the lead swapping several times and even though both managed to get a few car lengths on each other, the other would reel them back in.
The two kept it up into the final lap with Steve going on the inside for the final corner and drifted out wide allowing Lachlan to go from the outside to the inside and put the power down to take the win by just under two seconds.
Lachlan ended up winning four of the five races held that weekend to make it a great weekend for the 16 year old.
An attempt is being made to bring Lachlan to NSW to race at least one SCA race this year and should it be successful it could potentially bring the field up to six OzTrucks along with Stock Cars and GTA’s.
There are also hopes that some of the OzTrucks from the south will make their way up north to mix it with Lachlan and the QR Sports & Sedans.
Stay tuned for further news from QLD.
