In 1994, the movie ‘Metal Skin’ was released, and while some people think the movie is a cult classic, others think that it is a film you should stay far away from even if the creator of ‘Romper Stomper’ made it.
The highlight for Australian NASCAR fans was that the #5 “Oldsmobile Cutlass” Stock Car was featured in the climax of the movie, there are plenty of different shots in this scene and you are left with no doubt that the #5 is associated with the Thunderdome.

Don’t worry sports fans, it was not one of the John Sidney Racing Oldsmobile Cutlass’, it was just made to appear like one, you can tell it is not an Oldsmobile Cutlass by the 3/4 windows, and the front looks like an earlier Oldsmobile model, the Delta 88.

This car appears to be one of the cars built by John Sheppard and his team, 20 of them were in the pipeline but not all of them were completed.
Those who don’t like to see Stock Cars getting damaged better not watch the clip as there is damage aplenty.
‘Metal Skin’ is perhaps the only film in the world to have a Stock Car chasing another vehicle in suburban location.
In some ways, this scene is like the Cole Trickle – Rowdy Burns car scene in Days of Thunder when the two are crashing into each other with rental cars but this scene is more high stakes, and it uses a Stock Car.
The film can be seen in 2025 at least in Australia on Amazon Prime Video.
