Garry Rogers is now known to race fans as the owner of Garry Rogers Motorsport who in recent years carried the hopes of Volvo in Supercars before switching back to Holden but before achieving team owning success in Supercars, Garry tried his hand at AUSCAR racing.

Garry raced both Holdens and Fords in the AUSCAR series, the cars were beautifully presented in Valvoline sponsorship, and his cars were frequently seen up the pointy end of the field.

Garry’s use of the Ford Falcon after a stint with Holden (see above) gave Ford fans hope of success outside of Jim Richards.

Garry finished 34th in points in 1990/91 and 18th in 1991/92 and moved up to tenth in 1992/93 and finished 17th in 1993/94.

Garry won the 10-lap Round 6 race of the 1993/94 season at Surfers Paradise.

He would have further success as a team owner, Steven Richards in the #34 would take victory at Oran Park in the 1994/95 season.

Steven would then take a win for Garry Rogers on the Thunderdome in the 1995/96 season and in the process break a six-year drought for Ford at the track.

Steven then went on to win at Oran Park in 1995/96 to go back-to-back at the track.

In 2015, GRM’s #36 made an appearance at Queensland Raceway alongside other Garry Rogers cars, and it still looked as good as ever.

#36 can be seen in Garry’s workshop alongside his other well-known cars, this car didn’t turn a lap in anger but GRM drivers like James Moffat got to take it for a spin.

Car #34 went from GRM to Wakefield Park where people could either drive the car or be driven in it as part of a V8 experience, it then ended up at Winton where it sat in a paddock in a stripped down state alongside other AUSCARs such as the #22 Holden Commodore and the #77 Ford Falcon, the car was photographed at the track in 2017 and 2019.

#34 was then found in Parwan, Victoria and recovered by Brett Smith where its fate is yet to be determined but hopes are high that the car will be restored.
